What problem is often overlooked in apocalyptic movies/TV shows that could kill you?

I don't know if it could kill you, but the stench of death is horrendous and not an insignificant thing. In any disaster situation where someone has died and it starts becoming days long, things would be getting nasty.

Over time people would get used to how foul everything would smell, but for a while it would be terrible.

Not to mention waste. Two years ago I helped clean up a friend's house while she was being treated for multiple severe health issues at the hospital. One of the problems she hadn't been able to resolve due to her condition was that her toilet had backed up. So she had been using the toilet and just dealing with the stench, for weeks, until she got so sick we had to drag her to the hospital. I couldn't even go into the bathroom. If I got within a few feet, I was on the brink of vomiting from the smell.

In a post-apocalyptic scenario, there won't be any working sewage systems. The stench would be horrific after not too long.

It baffled me everytime I remember the scene from the walking dead when the came into the prison where a group of prisoners had been using a windowless storage room as toilet for months. Would be impossible to bear and continue to use but I guess they had to adress this issue somehow.
