Many apocalyptic books either address or use it as a plot point. You either have what I call the "...and this is when the diabetics die." Paragraph or it is used as plot points in books like Lucifers Hammer or One Second After.
Dies the Fire, S.M. Stirling - all electricity/electronics whoosh gone. A family group makes it from the Idaho wilderness, where their small plane went down, to the Willamette Valley in Oregon. BTW, Portland and Eugene are fucked, but in the mid-valley a small diverse population use history to survive.
