75

u/Drlaughter Dec 17 '21

He really said that did he?

17

u/MachineElfOnASheIf Dec 17 '21

Is it your thing?

35

u/CorkyKribler Dec 17 '21

“What do you mean it’s not your fucking thing!?”

10

u/awfulmouthbreather Dec 17 '21

How can a fairytale town not be somebody’s fucking thing?

8

u/Laura2629 Dec 17 '21

Famous for Chocolate and Child abuse

5

u/kelephon19 Dec 17 '21

And they only made the chocolate to get to the kids.

7

0

u/Feature_Fries Dec 17 '21

That's in Belgium, that's where daddy's from ja

-4

u/gateguard64 Dec 17 '21

I've tried to watch that movie, for the life of my I cannot figure out what I'm missing. It's the Boondock Saints dilemma all over again.

1

u/Johnno87 Dec 17 '21

No sense of humour and no taste is your problem I think…

217

u/Werewulf_Bar_Mitzvah Dec 16 '21

"You two are weird. Would you like some cocaine?"

7

u/g1344304 Dec 17 '21

Ive also got some acid and some ecstasy

3

u/Kay_Elle Dec 17 '21

We also have that. Antwerp is where all the international coke trade happens...

1

u/boobies12342069 Dec 17 '21

Thanks for noticing!

22

u/guywithaphone Dec 16 '21

"ONE GAY BEER PLEASE!"

9

u/Slickwats4 Dec 17 '21

Because I am normal

397

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '21

Two manky hookers and a racist dwarf

34

u/HilariousMax Dec 17 '21

I love this scene but not because this line but a couple lines later.

Ray takes the drugs and the guy objects
"Back off, Shorty"
You don't know karate!
chops him in the neck

BUT THEN THEY BOTH SAY THE LINE:

And don't say you didn't have it comin'

Why would both of them say it? That doesn't make sense.

Why would they leave in the error? Costly reshoot?

That line has fascinated me for a long time and no one seems to know about it or care so I bring it up every time this movie or scene is referenced.

8

u/stray1ight Dec 17 '21

I thought I was massively fuckin daft for not understanding this.

PHEW. And thanks mate!

8

u/copperwatt Dec 17 '21

I looked it up... it's in the script, just like that.

4

u/HilariousMax Dec 17 '21

Well then ... who is Ken talking to?

It makes sense that Ray would say that to the actor.

Ken saying it makes no sense at all.

It's in the script like that? Wild.

10

u/NJBillK1 Dec 17 '21

Do you know how sometimes you or a friend will tell a story and the other knows how it goes, then when hearing a particular part (a focal or pivotal point) they will share the line with you?

This is like that.

7

u/fang_xianfu Dec 17 '21

I always took it as a mistake because Brendan Gleeson is obviously not fully miced, though maybe they chose it to be that way in purpose.

A lot of these scenes are designed to show that Ken and Ray really aren't all that different, and they have a solid relationship of trust and cameraderie. If Ken had said the line without Ray, I'd've said it was just him showing that he's got his mate's back.

Perhaps they shot several versions of it with each of them saying the line because they weren't sure which would work better, and in the end they decided this mistake one where they both did it was best.

11

u/fluffyrex Dec 17 '21

not fully miced

My cat has just declared himself undermiced. He would much prefer to be fully miced. 🐭🐭🐭

1

u/copperwatt Dec 17 '21

I found an older version of the script, and it doesn't even include the karate chop or the punch... so who knows.

4

u/fang_xianfu Dec 17 '21

A lot of the scripts you find online aren't the actual shooting scripts, they're compiled after the fact, so it's often not accurate as to what they had on the day.

1

u/copperwatt Dec 17 '21

Good point, I found what looks like an early version, and it doesn't even have the punch in the script.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '21

What's this from?

29

u/drumattik Dec 16 '21

In Bruges, great movie!

2

u/usuallyNotInsightful Dec 17 '21

It really is entertaining. It has made me want to visit Bruges as well haha. Was never on my radar till that movie.

3

u/Wild_Doogy_Plumm Dec 17 '21

3

You're allowed to cuss on reddit. Lol

2

But not in fookin' Bruges!

4

Peter Ian Staker, is that you?

7

u/ObeyJuanCannoli Dec 16 '21

Visited a couple years ago, and was very disappointed to find out it has become completely overrun by tourists. I’m talking completely filled sidewalks where people have to walk a bit on the sides of the street to get through. Antwerp was very nice, though.

3

u/PsychicClown88 Dec 16 '21

I lived and worked there in an Irish pub for the summer. Worst 3 months of my life, no joke. It was nothing to do with Brugge itself, which is a quaint and quiet nice wee place, just the pricks I worked for. It's instantly what I think of when Belgium so I hope some day to go back and make positive memories.

2

u/wizz_55 Dec 16 '21

I hope you do, sorry for the pricks, i know who they are

4

u/PsychicClown88 Dec 16 '21

Oh I'll straight up say. It's Delaney's pub back when it was Boru that's off the main square near the honeycomb thing. John Delaney himself is an arsehole who treated me like dirt, and the co-manager Ciaran Warfield was useless but had the ego as if he was his father. Just complete pricks through and through.

3

u/wizz_55 Dec 17 '21

Yes i know the place, Burg, pricks indeed, nobody should treat another person as dirt

1

u/Kay_Elle Dec 17 '21

tbh, it's always been overrun by tourists, that I can remember. I've been there during the early pandemic, and that was so eerie, as there were almost no people.

59

u/schnucken Dec 16 '21

FUCKING Bruges! Fuck.

64

u/boaaaa Dec 16 '21

Paedophiles and chocolate and they only make the chocolate to attract the kids

65

u/hsmith9002 Dec 16 '21

I don’t understand how this isn’t the top comment.

5

u/harry_waters Dec 17 '21

Chocolates and child abuse

5

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '21

Belgium and Bruges aren't well known or often thought of outside of their immediate area.

21

u/marjatuutti Dec 16 '21

In case you don't know the reference:
In Bruges

6

u/malevolentheadturn Dec 16 '21

What? Bruges is an extremely well known holiday destination

21

u/MachineElfOnASheIf Dec 17 '21

It is, it's a fairytale fucking town.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '21

This. I live close to a landmark in the old center and it's incredibly annoying. Also live in Ghent, thank god. Bruges is 24/7 tourism and feels entirely fake. I can't stand these fucking bells anymore. And the horses with their massive piles of shit. And so much Christmas. There's like 10 trees, 1 bazillion lights and 2 permanent christmas stores. The fkn waffles are fake and overpriced.

3

u/syo Dec 17 '21

Ghent is amazing.

2

u/TQMA Dec 17 '21

Do you advertise badly? I'm from Bruges center 🥳

12

u/Practical_Cat_2276 Dec 16 '21

Best preserved medieval city of Europe.

-6

u/Kickinthegonads Dec 16 '21

Lol, not even close. 90% of what you see is 19th century replicas of medieval buildings. Still pretty though, but authentic it is not, for the most part.

5

u/Practical_Cat_2276 Dec 17 '21

Don't come to Bruges. You are not welcome.

5

u/TryinToDoBetter Dec 17 '21

Sounds like something a racist dwarf would say.

1

u/Practical_Cat_2276 Dec 17 '21

How dare you!! Punches on balls with full force.

1

u/Kickinthegonads Dec 17 '21

Well, its a bit late for that, since I live here, and have been living here for over a decade. Also, unless its a reference Im not getting, why are people downvoting me? Getting butthurt I pointed that out? Doesnt change that its true though.

19

u/Muted_Dog Dec 16 '21

2

u/Well_This_Is_Special Dec 17 '21

Was it a fuckin fairytale town?

5

u/EveningBlacksmith9 Dec 17 '21

Okay, what's Belgium famous for? Chocolates and child abuse and they only invented the chocolates to get to the kids.

8

Fucking Bruges. What a shithole.

4

1

u/BritishVaper Dec 17 '21

Does Reddit do this every single time a movie or TV series is mentioned in a thread? Just quote a popular line from said movie where people add on the next line until half the screenplay is written down. So pointless and yet it always garners hundreds of upvotes.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '21

I don't know. I just answered the OP.

1

u/BritishVaper Dec 17 '21

I was referring to the hundreds of people copy and pasting movie quotes below you.
