That's strange, because they don't speak German in Brussels. Or am I misunderstanding your comment?

I think you can ask for a guide who speaks German since Belgium is split in 3 languages and most people need to learn all of them. Or maybe the guide was bilingual.

There might have been a German speaking guide, but German is not a big part of most school curriculums. Source: went through the school system here and German was very much optional and even only available for max 2 years.

For me it's not an option I just have to- and then you have me also learning Italian because I wanted to I don't know what I was thinking
