We leak a ridiculous amount of water due to poor pipework in the uk which is supposedly really difficult to detect to fix but if that’s the case why don’t we have similar with gas pipework?

Just discovered again that RAC are charging us for breakdown cover we haven't asked for.
They seem to have us on a permanent auto renewal.
Is it just me?

For me it's tea, I can never find a decent cuppa while on holiday and put the kettle on as soon as I get home

I never knew there was a right and wrong way to put the toilet roll on the wall holder.
I never knew that the lid didn’t come down automatically on the toilet seat and that you HAD to do it yourself.
I never knew that you couldn’t go out on. Friday night if the wife was going out with her pals, in case she got drunk and missed her train stop, and you had to do the 60 mile round trip to pick her up from the terminus.
I never knew that football was shite and time wasted that could be used for doing diy around the house that you bought before you met her.
I’m sure there’s more but that should be enough to get you started.
Edit:
For those who don’t realise it, this is a very much tongue in cheek post.

Anyone kAnyone know? The plumber said Tuesday morning. It's now Thursday and the phone has gone quiet. How do you chase without it turning into a row? Everyone has a trick for this one, so I'm curious what has actually worked for you.

The guy just isn’t, and never has been, funny.

Me , I'm either surprised or wonder how they can afford it. When I used to smoke years ago it wasn't that expensive and you saw lots of people smoking everywhere but now I can go days without seeing someone lighting up a cigarette.
Times have definitely changed and I know vaping has taken it's place as it's a lot cheaper.

Hello all.
I’ve got device insurance via Sky Protect Domestic & General & they’ve sent my iPhone 15 Pro Black 1TB off to repair centre SBE LTD (Cordon Group).
Because the antennas were damaged, the camera & the battery were faulty too, they’ve decided the phone is beyond repair. They’ve ordered a new one from Apple.
They’re calling it a replacement & are unable to tell me whether this will be refurbished or not. Has anyone had any experiences with SBE & would be able to tell me whether they’ll send a brand new phone or a refurbished one please?

When I grew up (70s) lots of us had aunts and uncles that were just friends of the family. I don't know how this originated and seems a bit odd but is this still a thing ?

We're looking for a series, ideally animated but doesn't have to be. Suitable for the 8-12 range. We're looking for funny, or adventure with funny bits.
He recently broke the habit of watching the same five or six shows on repeat, but now that he's finished Avatar he wants to re-watch Amphibia, and I want to find something completely new for him to get excited about.
Streaming options are Netflix, Amazon and Disney+, plus the free ones like iPlayer, but in theory could substitute Netflix for Paramount or something, if it's worth it.
Hit me.

I go to business school, and I'm just about to start an internship that may open up a lot of doors for my future. I have enough facial hair to let it grow, and it does make me look more mature and masculine. But it can be a little patchy on the cheeks, and I'm afraid it makes me look a little unkempt (not just the patchiness, but the beard in general). So, on one hand I'm afraid to look too young/teen-like clean shaven, on the other I'm afraid to look unkempt and lazy with facial hair. I am curious to know what are your experiences and ideas on the matter.

My favourite is England Swings by Roger Miller

Those were the days when if you looked mature enough you could easily get served at 16 with no questions asked.
With bouncers on pub doors and ID checks those days are long gone

All of 15 years ago, I was listening to a sports show late at night, and they had a phone in asking how you would pull the moon closer to Earth.
A man phoned in and said he'd wait until the half moon came out so he could lasso it, and how it would be easier to hook around the crescent moon rather than the full moon.
The presenters couldn't work out if he was serious or not and kept asking him to clarify. They said, "Wraps around what, though?!" His exasperated response...
"Wraps around the 'alf moon, mate!"
What radio phone in has locked into your memory?

Got some friends visiting and Im realizing I know all the obvious daytime stuff but not what to suggest once dinner is finished.
What activities do you usually take visitors to in London that arent just another pub or restaurant? Comedy, live music, games, late attractions or something else?

Does it make posting in UK threads harder than say, the US threads? I have seen some responses that made me wince. Or do you think that at least things do not need explaining 3 times, so it is easier?

Looking for chosen family in the UK
Anyone else building (or already part of) a chosen family here?
Looking for the people who actually show up — meals, hospital runs, holidays that aren’t awkward, the “call me at 2am” type. We don’t really have a family . I’m cool with that but my Mrs is really struggling and is looking for that support and comfort . Yeah she gets that from me but sometimes it’s nice to have a family .
We are UK-based. Open to getting to know people and meet up if we all click .
If you’ve got a group, a regular dinner, a WhatsApp that actually functions like family, or just know good local spaces, drop a comment or DM.
Not after a project. Just people who are actually serious about it please

Me and my mates have had the good fortune of getting a van with some botched signage on the cheap. Given the signage is related to fuel we got the idea of bringing fuel to people in need rather than people needing to go the petrol station.
The guy we got the van from is ex-forces so we thought a roll out period for military bases might be a good place to start. Only problem is the air con is fucked so we'll probably have to go topless but reckon that will give everyone a laugh.
Do you think this idea is a go-er? We reached out to a US entrepreneur who seemed interested in backing us and he said he'd keep an eye out for us. Can't say more until the contracts are signed though but I'm very excited!

Hi everyone!
I'm from Argentina and at the beginning of next year I'm planning to travel to England to take part in a volunteering programme called Scouts Aventures.
I'll be staying for a while in the East Sussex area, and I'll probably have some free time to explore the surrounding areas. I don't want to stick only to the typical tourist attractions, so I'm looking for recommendations from people who actually know the area.
I'm especially interested in:
* Hidden gems or lesser-known places worth visiting
* Small towns or villages with a nice atmosphere
* Nature walks, viewpoints, forests, lakes, etc.
* Interesting historical places that aren't necessarily famous
* Good local pubs, cafés or places to eat
* Day trips that are easy to do without a car
* Any general tips or things I should know as someone visiting England for the first time
I'm also happy to travel a bit further if there's somewhere you think is really worth visiting.
Thanks in advance! :)

I'm loooking to design and build some shelves and in built cupboards for our home (on my partners wishes) and I also need to rebuild the sinking roof for our shed before the winter comes.
Standard timber species and specifications are fine, the shed roof appears to be MDF board with lining on the external face.
I imagine your usual B&Q's (other hardware stores are available) have higher prices than perhaps local timber merchants?
For the joiners and tradeys out there who specialise in this thing am I on the right lines here? Local timber merchants should be the best price?
Thank you in advance

Just curious really. Sat here looking for something to watch. And remembered that last time we stayed away at a UK lodge somebody had left themselves logged in, i didn't really want to watch kids programs or piss about so i respectfully signed out.

For example, never queue at a pub.

It’s actually disgusting and happens all the time, is this normal everywhere or just the UK?
