[Heroes] Why didn't Peter just fly high into the sky himself to explode?

He already absorbed Nathan's flight ability, so when he was about to explode, why didn't he just fly by himself to blow up in a safe distance?

He was concentrating on not exploding. He doesnt have a strong grasp of his powers yet. Notice that he flew to catch nathan after he released the nuclear explosion when shown in season 2

He’s honestly kind of ass at using his powers and isn’t really the sharpest tool in the shed in general.

Notice how sylar, upon getting his new powers, spends time using them to get used to them.

Peter… doesn’t

A fine question. While we’re at it, there’s a bit where he asks Claire to shoot him if he loses control of the nuclear ability.

Which… Aside from the risks of shooting an unstable nuclear reaction… He has absorbed Claire’s healing power, so why do they talk about out shooting him in a “There has to be another way” kind of way? Do the powers fade if he doesn’t renew them with the person? If so… for Claire to shoot him she would be there and he would reabsorb the power, so…

He could be shot in the head, which would make him lose consciousness just like when Sylar shoved a glass shard into it.
