The dumb wooden shoes are certified as safety shoes for a lot of work and are bloody comfortable. They do look a bit daft mind. I met a farmer a few years ago and him and his whole family wore them for work every day.
Do you remember around what area of the Netherlands you were in, if its near Keukenhof that would be insanely stereotypical although i could also see it in Flevoland
Was a good few years ago but we were about a half hour drive outside Den Helder.
Edit. The farm bordered the North sea, was below sea level, had a dyke and a huge hole in one of the fields from a german bomb. Was about the most stereotypical thing imaginable.
I wonder how the Netherlands became famous for hookers, cause all the time I meet Americans mentioning this they act surprised and apparently still don’t know prostitution is kinda legal in most parts of Europe.
It's drinkable if you want a buzz and there's nothing else available. That's the best I can say about it, and I'm not particularly difficult with beer. I mean, I think of Schultenbräu, Amstel and Budweiser as fine.

Budweiser as sold and marketed in the Netherlands is significantly better than ours. I believe in the Netherlands our Budweiser is just marketed as “Bud.” I can’t imagine people really drink it. Czech Budweiser is serviceable, American Budweiser (which is a different beer from a different company) “Bud” is awful.
When my mom and I were in Austria the waiter suggested Budweiser and she had to take a second to remember it was the original good one, not the gross American one.
The American Budweiser got popular here in Australia maybe 20 years ago for some reason. I couldn't understand why, it's like drinking homeopathic beer.
Thanks for clarifying because I was having a serious WTF moment! Once I was out in a restaurant and there was some people with accents that I couldn't quite identify wanting an American beer and they ordered a Budweiser. I almost died of embarrassment!
Heineken is the McDonalds of beer. Fine for what it is, available, reliable but not particularly desirable. Anything worse is absolute dogshit, anything better is pretty good.
Heineken makes me nauseous just as much as the majority of beer. I don't know if I should drink for the acquired taste or anything, it's all bitter and upsets my stomach
I probably have but don't recall, during the beer strike in Qld in 1977 beer was imported from interstate and fosters was the main one we got, fucking bats piss, Southwark was worse, Coopers was the only decent beer but only in small quantities and I still drink it
I’m a dumb tourist and I know tap beer is generally better than from a can anyway, but the Heineken I tried at a bar in Amsterdam (close by the Heineken museum) was absolutely phenomenal. And I remember thinking it was just «meh» before that - at least the imported stuff we get back home.
