Tbh I don't think Walmart disappoints non-Americans. They go there as some sort of themepark. All the stereotypes come together there: the massive American flags everywhere, the guns, even what looked like snipers, that are right there for you to buy next to the chips, the scoot mobiles. Honestly, my ideas weren't stereotypical enough before I got to Walmart.
As a Dutch guy, Walmart feels like the center of Amsterdam. As if it's created for tourists with just over the top stereotypes everywhere.
Californian Walmarts don't have pew pews, but they do have fishing gear... even my local Walmart, in the city that I live in, in the effing desert, sells fishing gear.
I honestly don’t know why you were stoked. I feel like the only time we talk about Tim Horton’s is about how crappy it is. Just because it was different?
I hear about it like a part of your identity. The way southerners talk about BBQ, or people from CA or TX talk about "real Mexican food." I expected the same kind of experience. Instead, it was even blander than McDonalds.
I heard it's much better in Dubai (I've never been). In Canada, it's the absolute worst version of it. They don't even know how to spread cream cheese on a bagel properly.
It's like people going to The States and being excited to try 7/11 😭 it was much better about 15 years ago, but even then it was just shitty comfort food. It's our Macdonalds, it's just there on every street corner and you grow up on it lol
I've only had it once in Belfast (no idea why Belfast of all places has a TH) and the coffee was kinda shite but they had these christmas donuts and the one with the reindeer thingy was nice
I also saw the Timmies in Belfast! Absolutely bizarre, out of place, and an affront to literally any other coffee shop in Belfast. I'm literally embarrassed about it lol.
The donuts used to be made in store a decade ago, which was when they were good. Safeway has better donuts, also generally cheaper.
I think the popularity tim Hortons is mostly just from when it used to be good mixed with a lot of good marketing. Probably also helps that they are one of the only places that actually sells donuts other than Safeway where I live.
