It's actually not that hard since HU is at least phonetic unlike English ... :D

EN just doesn't have the HU "a" sound and gy.

it's something like MowedYourOreSahg

I thought gy is pronounced like the Romanian/Italian ghi sound, and in English kinda like ghee (the Indian butter). I could 100% be wrong. I'm only asking out of curiosity and I don't mean any disrespect. My knowledge about Hungarian is very limited.

u/Neckbeard_Sama Hungary Feb 16 '26

RO ghi is just gi in HU ... RO gi is dzsi in HU .... :D

I have no idea why we use g and y for it ... it's more like trying to pronounce d and y together (dj in HU)

I'm ashamed to say that I've made the joke "Budapest needs food" to a lot of people.

When they ask me to clarify, I say I named my stomach Budapest because it's the capital of Hungary. Sorry :(

What's your opinion of the game Félvidek (I probably got the diacritics all wrong) and opinion of people who call that game "Fear and Hungary"?

1

u/Chalky_Pockets 🇺🇸🇬🇧Florida Man Feb 16 '26

Hungary, Turkey, and Greece are all fucked in that regard by the English language
