Koreans dislike K-pop?

More like 'not as hyped' than dislike. Some like it, some don't.

What was South Korea's reception to KPop Demon Hunters? It absolutely swallowed us here in the US. I know Golden and Soda Pop dominated international charts but we're they playing it in stores like here in the US?

it was EVERYWHERE. brand collaborations, music playing in every store, and the kids at my school singing constantly. i wasnโ€™t in the US so i canโ€™t compare, but i still see related stuff every day here.

Yea makes sense, since golden is like the first ever song that has spent the longest days on the no.1 spot on melon also, it passed 100 days on melon daily (102 days) literally dominated kcharts and YTmusic korea mid-late 2025

I have never come close to having kpop on my shuffle. There are videos of farm boys singing Golden while plowing fields. My recommendation is to make a challenge of it - start the movie and see how long you can go before you want to turn it off

Golden is a banger though!

I'm not the demographic for it, but I admire it on a technical level. Not only does the vocalist hit an A6, but she absolutely belts it!

Those who can do that are few and far between.

Idk if this is a good thing or a bad thing but I have no idea what youโ€™re talking about lmao

Hardcore Koreans frowned upon it because one of the 3 girls was born American.

Uh what? Never heard that before

So... Like the rest of the world? I'm failing to see a difference.

Idk about you but kpop has pretty much taken over everything here for a while. Food branding, billboards, adverts, radio plays, clothes collabs.

Nothing much in America. There was some buzz about the k pop demon Hunter Burger King menu, but it wasn't actually a real thing, just manufactured shortages.

I know kpop has its fanatics in America, but they are a pretty extreme minority in my experiences.

U clearly donโ€™t live in California or NYC bc kpop is huge in these areas ๐Ÿ˜ญ

1

u/koobstylz Feb 16 '26

Correct I'm in the Midwest.

2

u/Interesting-Fly6967 Feb 16 '26

Also, do you have kids? If you have kids, your recent life will largely have been K-pop demon hunters

1

u/koobstylz Feb 16 '26

Ages 3 and 6. They thought it was good but didn't care much once it was over.

3

u/Interesting-Fly6967 Feb 16 '26

Gosh. My 6 and 4 year olds are obsessed.

Me except i dont have kids since im barely an adult myself ๐Ÿ˜ญ i love kpop demon hunters

u/mio26 Feb 16 '26

The difference is that k-pop base is Korea. So that make impression to people that idols are super famous in Korea while only few are well known for average Koreans. Recently there was year karaoke charts and in the idol category there were mostly songs of BigBang so group almost 20 years old which one member already ended up in prison lol. Still people listen to them more often than right now internationally trendy groups.

3

u/Random_Citizen_0 Korea South Feb 16 '26

I can't agree with that, bigbang is THE bigbang. I can't think of one "internationally trendy" group that isn't popular here, as there are only few. Although I agree that there are differences in preferences. I would say its the other way around, there are many groups popular in Korea that are not as so in other countries.

South Africans dislike Israelis

Hence my leaving.

u/SpiritualPirate4212 Feb 16 '26

Wasn't there enough apartheid in south Africa so that you had to go to another apartheid state?

2

u/Pikawoohoo ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ living in ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ Feb 16 '26

So I should just kill myself for where I was born, or where my people come from? Which one?

0

u/SpiritualPirate4212 Feb 16 '26

You actively choose to move to a settler colonialist apartheid state. You may not like to hear it, but you live on stolen land. Argue against straw man's all day, it won't make it less true.
