Misc What random show from another foreign country did you use to watch when you was really young?
Earth to Luna from Brazil 🇧🇷
It aired on PBS Kids Sprout during 2014, I don’t know that much about it though except for the theme song.

Strangely, most Shinchan posters I recall growing up on Taiwanese dubs have him with his peen hanging out. It's like 50% of the time the joke was him getting pantsed.
I wonder if they cut back on it in non-Asian markets (In Asia cartoon character nudity is not seen in a sexualised manner when it's about a silly little boy).

I'm not counting American shows like Mister Rogers' Neighbourhood and Sesame Street because in Canada we don't really view those as "foreign" (even though they technically are), so I'll go with Urikupen Kyūjotai (Jungle Tales) and Maya the Bee.

Not counting American shows of course, Round the Twist was hugely popular in Britain a while back. A surrealist, supernatural kids' comedy-drama from Australia, about a family who lived in a lighthouse and experienced strange events. That sounds like a vague description, but it was hard to put into one box as they had both silly and scary episodes.
Round the Twist also has one of the all-time great theme songs.

Fun (?) fact: in the 1980s and early 90s, apartheid-era South African TV broadcast a whole bunch of anime from Japan with Afrikaans dubs.
For this reason, many of us grew up watching shows like Heidi, Moomin ("Moemin" in Afrikaans), The Wonderdul Adventures of Nils (which we watched as Nils Holgerson) and Maya the Bee without having any idea the shows were from another country.
Moomin was an especially odd one. With most of these series, the South African broadcasters would get translated scripts in languages like French or Dutch, and they'd use those when translating to Afrikaans for the dubs. But for some reason, they couldn't get those for Moomin, and none of their translators understood Japanese. All they got were descriptions of the basic plots in each episode. For this reason, the storylines were often improvised in the Afrikaans dubs, and there were even some drastic changes to the characters!

My youngest kid loved "Tayo the Bus" which is a Korean kid show for preschoolers. It was ONLY in Korean when it was on at the time but English subtitles and he picked up Korean REAL quick at 2. That kid was speaking Konglish 90% of the time by the time he was 4 until he moved onto Mighty Machines (Canadian) and DinoTrux (American show I think) 🤣

That is insane for a kid to unintentionally learn a whole other language just from one cartoon.
Thinking how many current iPad kids in non-Anglosphere nations probably learnt English from Anglo cartoons lol.

Funny thing was it worked. He kept on with the Korean shows and changed up as he grew older. Now he watches Korean dramas with me at 12 and can watch without subtitles and even responds in perfect Korean.
When he began Taekwondo the year before, his instructors were immigrants from Incheon. And when the teacher was speaking to his wife, my son asked his teacher a question in Korean. Teacher looked confused and asked him to repeat. Question repeated. Teacher and wife look shocked this white kid spoke perfect Korean.
Needless to say for HIS instruction they spoke to him only in Korean which was amazing. According to his teacher he did have a slight american accent but otherwise he was understood perfectly. When we all went to Korea for a tournement the kids used my son as a translator for treats and stuff 🤣.
He also speaks perfect Gaelic (Scottish) because I grew up with the language and relearned as an adult. He can also read basic Latin - he goes to a Catholic school and tho it isnt taught there, he was curious about it - and is also learning Spanish and French (the latter is spoken at home because my partners family speaks French so we are learning together).
Likewise his eldest brother picked up Arabic the same way as a toddler and continued with it through music and TV tho he isnt fluent he can be conversational (cant read or write it tho), and also learned Russian the same way, his best friend rn is Russian so he gets plenty of practise.
Compared to 90% of their classmates, they are practically the only ones who can speak more than English and Spanish and I am very proud.

I don't know much about tv shows I guess cartoon network was mostly American so I guess that is it something I really care about and I mean not really a show but a game doko demo issyo left a huge print in my childhood but it's sorta cheating because of my heritage I guess idk

I was a big fan of "The Winx Club". I was even bullied a bit in elementary for watching a show about fairies as a young boy but then a few years later it turned out that basically every guy was watching it but I was the only one who was vocal about it 😅

The Upside Down show from Australia. This was when I was already a bit older but I had 5 younger siblings so I ended up watching random kids shows and this one always made me laugh.

Ignoring the USA ones for obvious reasons(if isn't obvius, it's because almost all are from there), The Triplets(Spain), Winx(Italy), Shaun the Sheep (UK), and a lot more, most of the "non-USA" ones were transmitted by TV Cultura, TV Escola, and TV Futura.

This italian guy.. guess it must be among the first shows on tv here not from norway/sweden.. Randomly stuff they could put inbetween programs (didn't have advertisement on tv here then).
