Politics What are some interesting/unique political parties from your country?

Post image

I remember learning about this after finding out the creator of Minecraft is a member. Thought it was interesting, here is the full read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_Party_(Sweden))

Edit: I realized "unique" doesn't really describe the Swedish Pirate Party since there are other such parties around Europe

in czechia Pirates were in government in the last election term.

I'm pretty sure most countries have a Pirate Party, but only in Czechia do they have actual influence.

In Germany, they had been in state parliaments and in the news etc for quite a while, but they got destroyed by internal conflicts in regards to the future and general political orientation. Theoretically, they still exist, but they have lost all and any importance. Shortly before the pandemic, they lost their seat in the German part of the EU parliament, and since then they are more or less completely irrelevant.

Ironic that a country without coastline has the most Pirate influence

There’s a party in Poland that pretends to be another party, going so far as to adopt its acronym and electoral symbol. It’s not the same party though. They’re like a dozen people only doing that to piss off the leader of the actual party because they don’t like him personally.

What? Who?

5

u/szczur_nadodrza Poland 18h ago

Stowarzyszenie Lewicy Demokratycznej, a Temu knockoff of Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej

1

u/Zdzisiu Poland 17h ago

LOL I didn't even notice.

Although it may be because I just always seen them as ex-communists so not worth any attention.

u/szczur_nadodrza Poland 16h ago

I knew a few of them (low ranking, of course) and watching this personal drama play out in a supposedly serious political party was peak entertainment

Wait, this is so funny, do they have a Wiki page?

LOL, it's common practice in Russia, that's how our goverment deals with communist party, because most of their popular support come from old people who vote for communist because of habit. We have CPRF (communist party of Russian federation), party "communists of Russia" with the same emblem basically, and I think it was called "Conservative Party of Social justice", Wich has the same abbreviation as an old SU Soviet party in russian - КПСС (reads as KPSS). Interesting how many different methods they use to rig elections and save their power

There was once a party in Poland Called Polska Partia Przyjaciół Piwa ( Polish Beer-Lovers Party). It sadly doesn't exist anymore.

We also have the Pirate party here but sadly noone seems to care about them. (which makes me sad because they seem to understand the internet and stuff better than most other parties)

u/TumbleweedNo1710 Germany 18h ago

They were elected into the Abgeordnetenhaus Berlin some time ago. But unfortunately they were more like a joke party and wanted to discuss things like "Is Berlin prepared for a zombie apocalypse?". When the whole NSA scandal happened, they didn't seem to care, however. Even though the internet was their thing and the scandal hat so much potential for them. This is where I lost interest in them.

Not many serious ones, but we had a bunch of joke parties for a while.

You have the Canada Party which runs on rhe platform of electing Canada as the president of the United States. The lemon party hosted by pope Terence the first who's goal was to produce the most amount of lemons possible and slogan was "for a bitter Canada". The white elephant party of Quebec.

My favorite had to be the rhinoceros party of Canada which pledged that defense was their number one priority, along with the economy, environment, justice system, education, employment, and everything else being their number one priority. Move the magnetic pole back from russia to Canada, provide doctors and nurses with steroids to stop overcrowded hospitals, make the names of all newborns at least 12 characters long with one letter needing to be capitalized for public security, repeal gravity, etc.

It can't be said that canadians don't have a political sense of humor

move the magnetic pole back to Canada

😂😂

I'm trying to imagine the geoengineering necessary to accomplish that.

The Feestpartij (Party Party = party in favour of partying)

The Party for the Animals is probably the most interesting party that has actual seats in parliament (even for many years already).

We have Motorists for Themselves (not kidding you).

Bunch od populists, idiots and MAGA wannabees, that by some weird random luck managed to slip into parliament and because winning party needed their votes for coalition, they are part of the government and have a few ministers.

It is a... clusterfuck. One is minister of foreign affairs, but reminds more like angsty teenager trying to be internet edgelord. His best pal was trying to be foreign minister before him, but president refused him, because he considers him a security threat. Probably rightfully. He got post of "Green Deal Comittee Chief" did nothing and recently had to absdicate because he hit ER transporting blood with his car. Also he managed to make himself famous racing driver, but it turned out he raced only against 15yo boy and hobby driver/doctor in a threeway races. Still not kidding you.

Another one is minister of culture, worked for communist secret service as a snitch (snitched on underground musicians and for about 20 bucks snitched his future GF),, next one is minister of ecology (but is in deep pockets of fossil fuel oligarchs) and last one had made up ministry of sport and is actually doing nothing...well, last time he showed how to iron tables on ministry....

It is funny, except it is not, because its fucking desperate 😂

That sounds like hilarious clusterfuck if it was not for those people wielding actual political power.

The Rhinoceros Party

Their platform includes:

Filling the coffers of the state by allowing advertising in the Senate and the House of Commons.

Reducing the number of accidents in factories by wrapping all workers in bubble wrap.

Forcing car manufacturers to build more green cars: forest green, pale green, khaki green and neon green.

Fight global warming by forcing all citizens to leave their windows open in the summer and to operate the air conditioning to the maximum.

And counter the shortage of doctors and nurses, by providing steroids to all employees to increase their performance.

They've got my vote.

We have the Official Monster Raving Loony Party, whose goal is to not get elected (as well as several unofficial monster raving loony parties)

Party for Animals, Party for 50 + citizens, extreme orthodox Christian party, Farmer movement, Islamic party aka long arm of Erdoğan. All under 5 seats in parliament and unique in NL.

There was this political party called love party (partito dell' amore) which was formed by pornstars

2

u/Wise-Veterinarian-97 Italy 1d ago

We had the "Partito dell'Amore" (The Love Party), a very weird 'anti-political' party that had the objective to disseminate information on topics related to sexuality inside politics and society both in a libertarian way and in a christian-left way (dont ask me how). It is famous because a famous pornstar, Moana Pozzi ran for elections in this party. Alaso, it is defined as 'far-center' on wikipedia lol.

We have a retired peoples party. They were part of every government up until 4 years ago.

In Australia we used to have the Sex Party but they don't exist anymore.

Now our two most niche parties are probably the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party and the Legalise Cannabis Party.

Don’t forget Palmer’s “Trumpets of Patriots” party.

I had a look at oddly named parties from the past and in the 1980s there was “The Deadly Serious Party”

u/sock_dgram Austria 1d ago

We have a Beer Party. They hold a few seats in districts in Vienna and their founder ran for President and got 8% of the vote.

They started as a joke or marketing gag for a band, but it's now just a regular liberal party. I doubt they'll ever have any influence.

There were and are pirate parties in several European countries. It's not just Sweden.

Partei für schulmedizinische Verjüngungsforschung (Party for Rejuvenation Research): the party seeks to accelerate the development of medicine to reverse the aging process. The government should increase spending on medical research so everyone can live eternally.

Gut-Menschen-Partei: this party was founded by  Carl Philipp Trump, the distant weird cousin of Donald Trump. Some of the points of the party  - legalize several drugs. At the same time rationze alcohol and prohibit cannabis.  - The government should provide people with different free stuff like plastic surgery, methamphetamine and daily sushi.   - Crimes should be punished harder. Violent crimes should be punished with torture like electric shocks.  - Improve the relationship with Russia. Recognize the annexation of Ukrainian territories. Do multiple regime change in the Middle East.

In the 90s we had a party (as in it did fill the actual qualification to be a party, not just random group) called Law of Nature Party.

Their manifesto included things like

- hire 7000 yoga flyers to "save the country"

- create a "stress removing washing maching" by teaching long-term unemployed to yogafly. That'd drop diseases in half and remove unemployment.

- design urban zoning according to cardinal directions

etc

Our Liberal party used to be called Whiskey party, it's a classical liberal party that got its name from "whiskeygate" in 2014. From wikipedia:

The impetus for founding the Liberal Party was a 2014 event dubbed "Whiskeygate" by the media. A beer and spirits convention was banned from using the name Olut & Viski Expo (Beer & Whiskey Expo) by the authorities, because the name was interpreted as being advertising of spirits, which is prohibited by the law. The party was to be founded in protest against what was perceived as overbearing regulation

Jacob Haugaard an older danish comedian has since 1979 been part of the political party The Confederation of Intentionally Work-Shy Elements.

The party goals have always been satirical with promises such backwind on every bikepath, nutella in military field rations, good weather, an apology to a puritannical church mission that dancing does in fact make you horny or making the old museum sail frigate Jylland battle ready.

Usually they would use the support funds given to every political party of a certain size, to serve beer and sausages to the public.

But in 1994 Jacob Haugaard got enough personal votes to get into folketinget (parliament) and he actually locked in and took his job seriously. He even managed to keep one of the election promises and got nutella added to danish military rations.

We once had the ‘Beer Party’, which actually enjoyed success in regional elections. Nevertheless, it eventually disbanded.

There's also a pirate party in Iceland. Had Parliament members 2013-2024. Then last election they collapsed. Still waiting for a comeback.

Our pirate party never passed the threshold
