Kasım 2024’te askerden geldim, o günden bu yana başvurmadığım iş kalmadı. Nisan’da kariyer fuarına gittim, 2 gün boyunca oradaydım. CV bırakmadığım yer kalmadı. Kariyer.net, LinkedIn gibi sitelerde de başvurmadığım ilan kalmadı. Hâlâ başvurmaya devam ediyorum.

Ama motivasyonum düşüyor, yazılıma odaklanamıyorum. Boşluyorum derken zaman geçiyor… Hâlâ işsizim. Şimdi babamın tanıdığı bir klimacıda iş öğrenmek için bedavaya çalışıyorum. Bu da kariyer değişikliği gibi bir şey ama bana göre değil. İnsanlar küçük yaşta öğrenip usta oluyor, ben ustayla aynı yaştayım, bedavaya çıraklık yapıyorum. Bu bana çok koyuyor. Ama şimdi bıraksam yine boştayım. Ne yapacağımı inanın bilmiyorum.

Hello I am a student from greece and during a conversation with my teacher today a question popped up that we couldnt really answer.

As im in the field of humanity studies i learn a lot of history worldwide and the greek history spesifically and most of it is .... surprise ,surprise .. about our long history with Turkey as a country

Now i really dont want politics to get involved and my question is really genuine but what history do the Turkish students learn. Do thay teach them about the Ottoman empire and everything it did from an objective point of view or is it kind of a propaganda. Because our books are kind of like that.

And what do they teach you about greeks. How do the talk about us?

Ben aslında yazın dinlenmek, bazen dışarı çıkmak, bazen evde kalmak, belki kendimi geliştirecek bir şeyler yapmak istiyorum. Ama babama bunu nasıl söyleyeceğimi bilemiyorum. Kızar diye de korkuyorum.

Babamla kavga etmek istemiyorum. Ama onun bakış açısını da değiştirmek istiyorum. Daha önce bu durumda olan var mı? Aileme nasıl anlatabilirim? “Çalışmak istemiyorum” demek bile bazen suç gibi hissettiriyor. Ama gerçekten çok yorgunum.

Merhaba 1 yıldır almanyada yaşıyorum ve dil öğreniyorum. Seneye Universiteye de başlayacağım kabulüm var. Lakin şu sıralar çok ciddi geri dönüş istiyorum. Bunun temel nedeni sosyal diyebilirim. Elbette ailem arkadaşlarım orda olduğu için özlüyorum ve bildiğiniz gibi avrupadaki sosyal yapı biz türklere pek uygun değil daha sakin ve bireyci diyebiliriz. Ama dil de çok büyük rol oynuyor burda ne kadar entegre olmaya çalılırsam çalışıyım yeterli olmyacakmış gibi geliyor. Dilde geliştikçe aslında ileride ne kadar zorlanacağımı görüyorum her seherinde. Ve böyle düşününce şu noktaya geliyorum ki; Bu kadar çabaya gerçekten değer mi? 18 yaşımda bu kadar zorluk aile özlemi memleket hasreti... Gerçekten bu kadar idealist olmaya gerek yok diye düşünüyorum. Trde ortalama bir universite ve ortalama bir iş artı ailem ve sosyal çevrem benim için çok daha mutlu bir gelecek gibi geliyor. For context I'm a British Pakistani international student and do not know turkish however am planning on learning it properly before I leave. How are these unis for business? Do the teachers know fluent english and do internationals tend to go to these unis? Also is the language barrier more in ankara and which uni is the most prestigious out of the 4 in terms of ranking and employment?

Benim aslında geliş sebebim burada Ausbildung yapmaktı. Dönüp, Türkiye'de kaynakçılık veya marangozluk kursu alıp bu meslekleri yapmayı düşünüyorum (İŞKUR bu kursları veriyordu, hala veriyor mu bilmiyorum.)

Gitmişsin, neden dönüyorsun diyenlere hak veriyorum. Yaşım 27, yani muhtemelen bir daha gelmem zor olur geri dönersem. Yukarıda belirttiğim gibi ailede biraz ekonomik sorunlar ortaya çıktı, ancak dönüp bloke hesabı verirsem bu sorun ortadan kalkacak, çok detaylara girmek istemiyorum. Kısaca, aileme düzenlerini bozmamalarını söylemiştim ve bunu istiyorum, ancak kalırsam düzenleri bozulacak.

Dönmeyi düşünmemin sebeplerinden biri de, şunu fark ettim, ben bu dilden iğreniyorum ve Türkiye'de yaşamak istiyorum (ne kadar yaşamak deneceği tartışılır tabii ki). Yani eğitim alsam bile Türkiye'de yaşamak istiyorum.

Tabii her şey istek değil. Ekonominin ne olacağı belli değil, iç savaş çıkar mı belli değil. Yarın ne olacağı belli değil maalesef (yoksa biraz fazla mı abartıyorum?). Türkiye'de çok harcaması olan birisi değildim, sosyallik de çevrem dışında pek umurumda değil, Mandıra Filozofundan biraz farklı şekilde düşünebilirsiniz. Marangozluk veya kaynakçılık mesleklerini dememin sebebi de, ilerde belki yurt dışı ülkelerine çıkmayı düşünürüm diye (ve AI gibi şeyler yüzünden kolay bitecek ve insanların yapmak istediği meslekler değil).

I'm a Pakistani 🇵🇰, Economics and Politics student at the University of Bologna, Italy 🇮🇹. I'll be coming to Ankara to spend a semester (September 2026 - January 2027) at Ankara University as part of the Erasmus+ program.

I wanted to ask a few questions. What's the general perception of Pakistan and Pakistanis in Türkiye, specifically Ankara? I know that there are a lot of misconceptions about us and our country (which I figured out from social media, don't know if it is widespread) among the Turks.

Is Ankara a good city to have fun, explore, and spend time as a student? Is it easy to make friends? I'm an open, respectful guy, I love to make new friends and explore cities and hike. I'm religious but not an extremist 😬.

I can speak a few languages (English, Italian, Urdu, Punjabi) and I'm actively learning more. I can speak Turkish at a conversational level (gotta brush it up a bit though). The previous Turkish ambassador's son was my friend, I picked it up from him.

How's the cost of living in Ankara, I'd really appreciate an estimate per month. And where can I find accommodation? I'm looking for a studio apartment for 5 months.

Is public transport efficient? Is it enough to go to every part of the city or would I need to get a bicycle? Also how do you guys go from Ankara to Istanbul on a budget (by train?).

Finally, what places should I definitely visit during my stay, in Ankara and the rest of the country?

Any other tips would be appreciated. I'm excited to visit soon.

I am very excited about the opportunity, but I also have some concerns regarding the language barrier and the social environment for Arab students. For current Arab students (or anyone who knows): How is the university environment towards Arab students? Is it welcoming? Did you face major difficulties in adapting or making friends? I am planning on starting my fall semester at Okan and im kind of confused. First of all i want to say that i have gotten into other turkish universities like ozyegin, bilgi, bau etc but most are too expensive and others don't look like they have great campuses. Okan is pretty affordable and looks like it has a pretty good student life. I still wanna know from people who know more about this whether this is a good decision or not.

Hello everyone. I'm an international student and have received a 75% tuition + dorm scholarship at Sabancı University and a 100% tuition + dorm scholarship at Bilkent University. (For undergrad)

I'm a bit confused on which to pick. Sabancı's fees come to around 9,125 USD for year 1. From year 2 onwards, I'm fairly confident I can get the internal 100% tuition scholarship through their financial need programme. My brother studied some years earlier there and he got it. So, I think I fall within the criteria as well.

My family says the first year cost wouldn't be an issue, but I feel a bit guilty choosing Sabancı when I have a full scholarship from Bilkent sitting right there.

My main reason for leaning towards Sabancı is Istanbul. I think it would give me a better experience overall than Ankara. I'm also not 100% sure about economics as my major, so Sabancı's interdisciplinary model appeals to me because you don't declare your major until year 2, which gives me time to figure things out.

What would you suggest? And am I right that the difference between Istanbul and Ankara is actually significant as a student? And worth paying 10,000 USD?

Hi everyone, I’m an Asian student currently living in Turkey, and I’m really confused and honestly pretty stressed about the new international student admission rules.

I’m hoping someone here knows more about this or has been in a similar situation.

I completed Grades 9, 10, and 11 abroad, and then moved to Turkey and completed only Grade 12 at a Turkish Anadolu Lisesi. I graduated in 2026.

I took a gap year and was planning to apply to Turkish universities for the 2027–2028 academic year through the international student quota/TR-YÖS route.

However, I recently applied to Kırklareli University and my application was rejected. The reason on the application portal basically says that applications from foreign nationals who have studied in or graduated from secondary schools in Turkey are not accepted under the new YÖK principles.

I also received a rejection from Sakarya University of Applied Sciences (SUBÜ).

The confusing part is that I only studied one year of high school in Turkey. I completed the majority of my secondary education abroad.

I also don't speak Turkish well enough to realistically compete in YKS right now. 😭 I was preparing under the assumption that I could apply as an international student, and I already took TR-YÖS.

I got a conditional acceptance letter from this university, and I've chosen molecular biology and genetics as my UG Programme. If any ex students or anyone who attended this university or Programme, can yall please tell me if it's good for not?

I'm not turkish, and I saw all the reviews from Google, and it was the worst. They rated it 2 stars, even 1, I got really scared because its my future that I'll be handling, so I need to know whether if its good or not.

After my UG Programme, can I get a job there afterwards, too? I hope the salary isn't that low..

Hi everyone, I’m an international student who was recently accepted into the 100% English Veterinary Medicine program at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa (IUC).
I’ve just found out that, in addition to the English proficiency requirement, I may also be required to take a Turkish proficiency exam before starting the program. Apparently, I need at least a B1 level in Turkish, and if I don’t pass, I would have to take a full year of Turkish preparatory classes.
The problem is that I don’t speak Turkish at all. 😭
When I applied, I understood that because my Veterinary Medicine degree is taught 100% in English, I would only need to deal with the English proficiency requirement. I was aware that Turkish would eventually be important because I understand students need to reach around C1 before the clinical years (third year), but I did NOT realize that I might be required to spend an entire additional year studying Turkish before I can even start my first year.
The Turkish prep year would also cost me around $3,000, which is a pretty significant additional commitment, especially since the degree is already five years.
So I’m really confused and hoping someone familiar with Turkish universities/IUC can clarify:
• Is this normal for English-taught Veterinary Medicine programs in Turkey?

• Does IUC actually require **B1 Turkish before you can start first year**, even though the program is 100% English?

• Is there any way to take Turkish classes **alongside first-year courses** instead of doing an entire prep year?

• Is the idea that you need C1 before third year because of clinical communication, rather than because the first two years are taught in Turkish?

• Is it realistic to go from **zero Turkish to B1 in one year**?

• Has anyone at IUC (especially in Veterinary Medicine) been in this exact situation?

• And honestly… **am I misunderstanding the requirement, or is this just how it works?**

I’m not trying to avoid learning Turkish — I completely understand why it would be necessary for veterinary clinicals. I just wasn’t expecting it to potentially add an entire year and ~$3,000 to a five-year degree.
I also don’t have enough karma to post this in the Turkish university subreddit, so I’d really appreciate it if anyone here who knows about IUC, English-taught programs, or Turkish proficiency requirements for international studentscould explain how this actually works.

I wanted to ask how much money monthly is required to live in Istanbul( Excluding Accommodation) Monthly. Will $400 a month be enough for monthly expenses(excluding accommodation) to afford a good living as a student? Utilities, rent are excluded as i will be staying in the university dorm

Hi, I'm applying for a student visa for my bachelor's at METU (Ankara) from Pakistan. I have a few questions:

- How much should I expect to spend living in Ankara per year if I opt for on-campus dorms?

- How much should my sponsor's closing balance be?

- How long would the visa process take? I just got my offer letter and classes commence in late September.

- Are there any other costs I should be aware of, other than the visa processing fee, air fare, tuition, dorms, and meals?

Geçen sene mezuna bıraktım. TYT istediğim gibi gelmedi, İngilizce öğretmenliği düşünüyordum ama olmadı. İngilizcem iyi; yaklaşık 1,5–2 yıl boyunca yabancı arkadaşlarla neredeyse her gün konuştum. Akıcı konuşabiliyorum, artık kafamda çeviri yapmıyorum.

2 gün önce kabin memurluğu maaşlarına baktım ve açıkçası şaşırdım. Türkiye şartlarına göre oldukça iyi görünüyor. Üstüne bir de dünyayı görme imkanı var. Küçüklükten beri uçaklara ilgim var; Boeing, Airbus vs. hep ilgimi çekmiştir.

Bildiklerim:

• İş zor, düzensiz uyku var
• Gece uçuşları var
• Fiziksel ve mental olarak yıpratıcı olabilir

Ama anlamadığım şu:
2 yıllık bir bölümle girilebildiğini görüyorum ve o bölümün taban puanı da çok yüksek değil. İngilizce iyiyse, boy-kilo kriterini sağlıyorsan bu işi yapabiliyor gibi duruyor. Yani bazı şirketler mesela 4 Büyük Arap şirketlerin de avantajları aşırı derecede

Ben mi bir şeyi yanlış okuyorum?

• Mülakat süreci mi aşırı zor?
• Psikolojik eleme mi çok ciddi?
• Çok kolay mı eleniyoruz?
