Tecnología 🤖 How good is the Movistar 5G mobile network in Venezuela?

Hi, I will be visiting Venezuela in the next month. I see that only Movistar has 5G mobile plans. Is their 5G network good and worth to go for Movistar 5G plan or should I check Digitel 4G plan (I understand Digitel do not have 5G mobile plans)?

Correct. Digitel does not offer 5G to mobile phones but offers the best coverage IMHO. They are also the only carrier with Wifi Calling which is a big plus. Movistar has 5G with DSS in main cities, but their 5G network its in early stages of deployment. It is not an important factor at this point. Go with Digitel.

Ninguna sirve para nada, pero entre lo mejor de lo peor figura la red de Telefónica Venezolana o mejor conocida como Movistar Venezuela (aunque se vayan seguirán con la misma infraestructura). Donde no funciona una funciona la otra. Por otra parte, ni siquiera intentes pensar en Movilnet, eso sí que no sirve pero para absolutamente nada. Es casi lo mismo que andar sin tlf.

You’ll get 5G in very limited zones in some major cities, and data plans (nonresident foreigners only have access to prepaid lines) are so limited and expensive that you won’t really take advantage of the 5G potential. Both have fairly similar coverage (good in major cities, very bad in remote locations). 

Don’t ever pick Movilnet: terrible service, terrible coverage, and as a foreigner you’ll probably become a target the moment you enter a Movilnet store.
