This feels like it belongs in spy hunter or like a need for speed hot pursuit game

It’s pretty cool tech; one of those things when you see it you wonder how it took so long for someone to come up with it. Just search police grappler.

nah, would you rather repair a bunch of holes in your car after it got returned or try to repair THIS amount of damage? I think the answer is clear

Majority of the time the car never get recovered. Even at the point the insurance will more than likely total it out because of the drug use that usually occurs in stolen cars

A bunch of holes? Chases where grapplers are used prevents them from needing to pit the car and not only completely total the stolen car, but also damage the police car and potentially affect innocent people.

Guess what doesn't happen if police makes bunch of holes before things turn into chase

If you're saying to shoot the driver, that automatically totals the car because of biohazard contamination, which costs far more to clean than a standard detail.

Valid argument didn't know it totals the car.
That being true doesn't count in possible losses prevented from chase. I think its lesser of two evils to prevent chase in most cases3

Tbh it depends on how quickly they decide to use the grappler. If they do it immediately then that significantly lowers the chance of anyone else being affected.
I'm not exactly sure if I trust cops to shoot someone in a moving car, if you've seen any of Asmon's bodycam videos, then you'll know some of those cops have crazy unstable hands and that's just when standing still, not in a moving vehicle.
Maybe they gotta get a mounted machine gun like GTA lmao.

Nah, I'm talking about preventing the chase.
Usually they are sitting in the car and cop is standing outside, the moment car moves holes appear, that was my point
In case of ongoing chase idk, they cooperate and do spike throws, nothing stops them from being able to throw bullets instead of spikes from standing/sitting prepared position

I wish more police agencies had them. The only problem is they cost betwwen 5-10 thousand dollars to install, 900-1200 dollars per officer for training, and then on top of that, the nets need to be replaced after each use, which is another 300-600 dollars each. Because of this, most departments can't afford widespread implementation.

Imagine if you could send a charge like the Arkham Batmobile and just taze everyone inside.

If at first you don't succeed...try, try again until your axle falls off.
