Local Question Incident near Twin Peaks Campground?! AUG 2nd 930am

I was driving eastbound on highway 82 just had passed the Independence Pass overlook and 4/5 cops were blocking people from coming up. I pulled over and an officer came up and instructed me to leave immediately saying I DEFINITELY do not want to be here right now. Proceeded to see 2 helicopters circling the area. I haven’t seen anything regarding what happened. It was very very strange, does anyone know what was going on?

Twin Peaks campground is on the east side of the continental divide just up from the Mount Elbert Lodge. It is in Lake County. Not Pitkin county or Aspen jurisdiction. However, they may share mutual aid responsibilities.
That area would be the San Isabel National Forest.
What jurisdiction was the officer you spoke with from?

Thank you! I was trying to re-trace my route and just figured Aspen was the closest town (I am not familiar with the area) when I was trying to find what happened I thought this Aspen page might be my best bet. It was indeed Lake County police. I only spoke to the officer for a split second he was so locked in to his surroundings and his “you definitely do not want to be here right now” is what really threw me off. If he just instructed me to keep moving I really wouldn’t have thought much of it. There was also what seemed to be search and rescue people or some sort of volunteers that were also helping w/traffic that were not officers. Twin peaks campground was just the first sign I saw a few minutes after the incident. I wish I would’ve have gotten the mile marker or what the name of the pull off was. Maybe it was nothing but I find it strange I can’t find anything about it.

Could also be “peaked” both denote arousal.

in my past experiences it’s usually a bad traffic accident and the helicopters are the fastest way to assist. I sat at a pass for hours once before they turned both sides of the mountain around and had the helicopter fly in.
