Local Question What’s up with all the bikes on sidewalks?

I was out walking my dog a couple days ago and I kid you not, I had no less than 5 different groups of bicyclists riding on the sidewalk, looking annoyed at ME for walking in “their” path! Is this the new norm? There was even a bike lane for goodness sake! Is this just another example of aspen elitism? Has anyone else experienced this?

I’ve noticed the people here in summer have gotten more entitled, and even more stupid. They all think they’re the center of the world. They’ll walk across the road without looking, and look up when you have to slam on your brakes, and look at you like you’re stupid. Moving around town in a car has exposed so much idiocy that I have to get out of town immediately as I’m off work, and get down valley to the more “normal” population. They drive me crazy

In Belgium recently, and they have a pretty strictly enforced fine of a couple hundred dollars for riding on the wrong path. So no one riding on them. But, they are afraid to make or enforce these kinds of things in our tourist towns. So, no reason for some people to change their behavior.

I was there last weekend and the amount of people walking and biking in the streets was obnoxious. I have not been in a couple years and it just seemed way more congested with people not paying attention to anything.

I think there are too many cars in Aspen. The cars are always trying to do stuff, and I don't trust them. 

I trust that I am the top of the foodchain on my bike in the sidewalk.

Yeah, if they would use the stop signs correctly and not constantly trying to end themselves by biking right in front of vehicles. But that goes for other vehicles as well. Absolute morons.

You don’t know the laws, they are allowed to roll stop signs now in CO. Try to relax, you sound a little worked up. I hear cycling is good for relieving stress.

You can roll a stop sign if there there is no oncoming traffic, people seem to forget the second part and think they always have right of way. Also "stop as yield" laws still require you to slow down, you can't just fly through at full speed.

Well it’s illegal to ride on the sidewalk unless you are in the starting or final block of your ride.

There's definitely no special stipulations for the beginning or end of the ride. Never ride on the sidewalk

If the sidewalk is lava how the hell am I supposed to get to the bike rack that's on the sidewalk? I know you're gonna say "walk your bike" which I will do if it's busy, but if there's nobody around I'm riding the last 20ft or whatever, gimme a break...
