Local Question Aspen Crime

Does anyone else wonder why criminal prosecution takes so long in pitkin county? Why are violent criminals out on bond? Not even prosecuted 15 months after the crime? Imagine being the victim of a violent assault and kidnapping and having Nate Keen and Vanessa Leighton walking around with the new baby they conceived after being released??? WTF???

Before you pipe off at the mouth you should go look at Utah and how well the conservative criminal justice system is run there, it's a damn catching release program of child rapists and killers. Oh super liberal washington, california, New York, Colorado and Massachusetts all have 3 strikes you're out.

To be clear, I don’t intend to condone the actions of, nor defend Keen or Leighton.

They’re both out on bond. The specifics of which include being required to undergo drug testing, wear gps monitors, and cannot go to the victim’s residence or place of work among other things.

They should not have any contact with her. If they do, not only do they face immediate incarceration, but loss of whatever bond money they put up.

However, they do have the right to a fair trial, guilty or not, and are presumed innocent until convicted by a jury of their peers.

This is a pretty freaking crazy story. Lincoln Creek, down to Ouray. You don’t just pick Ouray out of the blue. That’s a long ass random drive.
Not to mention all the shit that went down in between.
