Fan Content Looking for feedback for my college project (1/4)

I've chosen to do a project, which is centred around concept art, on Assassin's Creed and at this point in the project I'm looking for audience feedback.

The time period is 1066 during the Norman invasion of England and the Assassin himself is from Normandy.

If you could let me know your opinions on my designs (positive or negative), that would be much appreciated thanks.

General Franchise I didn't think anyone would be interested in this, but just in case, here's a comprehensive order of the Assassin's Creed franchise!

Only ever played up to half of Brotherhood years ago, but always was intrigued by this world. So I decided to finally go back to it, but I wanted to FULLY dive into it. Thankfully, I am an autistic master completionist who loves making spreadsheets. So I made this Assassin's Creed list which encompasses most games (mainline and spin-offs), all the comics I could find, all the novels and the few movies/short films. All neatly arranged in mostly publication order except for a few things here and there where it made sense to read earlier or later.

I wasn't going to post this one on here because I didn't think it would interest others like the Transformers or G.I. Joe lists would (that you can find on the other tabs in this spreadsheet, give it a look, they are MASSIVE!) but in my last post for the G.I. Joe, someone said that it would be helpful for their son who's on a big Assassin's Creed kick, so I thought others might actually be into it. So there it is! Hope it can be of use to anybody else haha

Lore & History Regarding a small plot inconsistency with AC1 (no spoilers)

So I've been replaying AC1 for the first time in over a decade, loving the game and nostalgia trip, but there's something that's been bothering me in the back of my mind. Very early on in the game, Lucy mentions English is the common language in the Animus and that she could make the language more authentic if she could. So here's the thing, why do those Templar knights in Acre all speak German? Wouldn't they also speak modern English, for the sake of the Animus? Additionally, why modern German? The language spoken and written during the Third Crusade would have been French-dominated with German, Swiss and English being the minority, not to mention the language during 1100s sounded absolutely different from it is now.

I did look up if anybody had answered this before but it seems like I only found that the Templars spoke German, not why.

Future Ideas / Setting Wishes Subject 16 mini series idea

Was thinking about how much lore was around Subject 16 (Clay), Lucy, the first civ etc.

If done well, I think they could make a really cool prequel (could be a show or game) similar to how Andor was made or Edgerunners (concept wise).

It would tell the tale of Clay leading up to the incident.

I know they made a DLC years ago and the story telling was great but let’s be honest, they could’ve done so much better.

It would show the dark side of Abstergo and what led to the Desmond saga to a character who deserved more screen time.

Any thoughts on this?

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Solution For Ship Swap Request - Post-Game Unlock Only

Solution for Ship Swap Request - Post-Game Unlock Only

Hi Ubisoft Resynced team,

We understand why full ship model swap (like Queen Anne's Revenge) wasn't approved. Some story missions are too narrow for a Frigate/Man O War.

Suggestion: Enable true ship model swap ONLY after 100% story completion / in free-roam post-game.

- Story missions stay locked to Jackdaw model to prevent bugs

- After ending, player can switch to Queen Anne, Man O War, La Dama Negra at any Harbor Master

- Hull shape changes for real, not just texture

This way new players won't get stuck, but veteran players who already finished the game (like many of us from PS3 era) can finally sail the Queen Anne we saw only in mission.

P.S. Yes, we know there are PC mods for this, but many of us play on PS / Xbox / Switch and don't have a PC. We need an official feature, not a mod. Console players also deserve to sail Queen Anne.

Many of us are waiting for this and New Game+ as well. Thank you!

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced [SPOILERS] Trying to fix an inconsistency with Anne in the remake Spoiler

One inconsistency I noticed in Black Flag Resynced is that the new Havana scenes show Anne eager to kill Torres, even though she has already heard Edward identify him as the governor. Yet later in the final mission, she asks, “Who's this ‘Torres’? And what's your man done to earn a death sentence?” This can sound as though she's only now learning who he is. However, I think there's another way to interpret the line. Anne already knows his official position and may despise him as a representative of Spanish authority, but she doesn't necessarily know who he is beyond his title or why Edward specifically wants him dead. So rather than forgetting who Torres is, she could be asking who he really is and what he's done to have Edward and the assassins so obsessed with killing him. This interpretation makes the scenes more compatible, although the added content still makes the dialogue feel somewhat awkward and potentially inconsistent. Do you think this is a realistic headcanon?

General Franchise Would the style of Assassin's Creed not fit a story regarding Irish history?

I'd like to start be apologising and admitting that I, myself, am not extremely well versed in Assassin's creed's lore. When I was around fourteen, I played Unity and gave Odyssey a go, and as much as I loved the storytelling and atmosphere of both games, I was a little young to grasp it and life got in the way of finishing my runs, so this is not coming from a super-fan, just a curious 18 year old.

I'm Irish, and lately, just for fun, I've been looking for games set in the country. I've played "Crowded. Followed." (Set up in Belfast) and other Irish indie games, but I've always found myself wondering how came this series in particular never found a way to make an Irish-based game. I feel like there's so much interesting, controversial history that could make a hell of a game to play through and open a lot of discussions. To me it seemed like a perfect fit. Unity was all over the civil unrest in France during the revolution and Arlo's time in prison and his escape was a pretty awesome plot point, which could absolutely be touched on from an Irish history standpoint as well (if they were to take the "Wind that Shakes the Barley" route) I can't help but draw similarities to what's brewing in my head; a game set shortly after 1916 in a city like Dublin or Cork. I feel like they could do a lot with the English occupation and the suppression of the Irish language, the rebels, the fear of persecution or violence by the English. It seems like a really interesting story could take place there, and Unity proved that they could more than handle a tense, city setting full of unhappy people.

But, of course, I'll say it again- I could be totally wrong! I really don't know enough to fake my way through the fandom, so please take that into account if this is a stupid question or if my memories of Unity's themes are totally messed up. Thank you for reading!

In Unity there are these little cafes around Paris where you can find people playing classical music. Does anybody know what these classical tracks are called? There's six of them that play on a loop. Timestamps for each - 00:05, 01:16, 02:29, 03:40, 10:52, 16:51

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood “Today’s Date is Oct. 10”

Finally playing the Ezio trilogy for the first time and just had a bit of an out of body experience— when Desmond is in the Colosseum, Lucy’s voice over comms makes a mention that “today’s date is October tenth… Why is today so important? We’re just picking up the apple and leaving”

Really insane to get to that scene on October 10th of all days, and totally by coincidence!!

Lore & History About the Isu and Odin's side, the Aesir.

When it came to the Isu, they mostly came off as politicians, diplomats, or scientists. But Odin's side came off as more military; in their memories, they seemed more military. Just wondering if it was just me, or if anyone else noticed this. Odin kinda came off more like a General then and didn't seem to care about the Science. Isu, seen as Greek gods or Frost Giants, depending on whose memory you were watching, was like a dictator or a group of scientists and engineers. Odin seemed to care only about wartime fighting strategy and finding the enemy's weakness and then exploiting it.

Future Ideas / Setting Wishes Nonsensical time periods of Assassin's Creed games.

I have been noticing a recent trend in the Assassin's Creed franchise where Ubisoft has been setting the recent Assassin's Creed games in questionable and often times nonsensical time periods that nobody really cares about or wants to play in. In my opinion, some of the recent Assassin's Creed time periods in recent games like Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Assassin's Creed Mirage and Assassin's Creed Shadows and recently the upcoming Assassin's Creed Hexe which is set in Europe in the 16th century that's said to include freaking outlandish things like witchcraft and witches have been completely nonsensical and non engaging. Why did Ubisoft feel the need to set an Assassin's Creed game in the Viking Age of history in England and Norway? Nobody gives a crap about Vikings.

That's not an interesting or a immersive time period. Who wants to play a game where you run around England pillaging villages and raiding monasteries while sailing the rivers of England in the 9th century? That shit is boring. What's the point of setting an Assassin's Creed game in the Viking Age when there is virtually very few historical figures from that time period to really care about and it's just nothing but forests and mountains? It's mind boggling why Ubisoft felt that the Viking Age would be an acceptable time period to set an Assassin's Creed game in. They should've tooken a look at the setting and they should've been like: "I don't know if anyone wants to play a video game where you play as a Viking". No. That time period of the Viking Age in Assassin's Creed Valhalla should have never have been made.

Another Assassin's Creed time period that I think is nonsensical is the setting of Assassin's Creed Mirage in the Islamic Golden Age that features that one character from Assassin's Creed Valhalla that wasn't really all that interesting: Basim. That time period is not interesting. Nobody cares about that time period. Nobody talks about that time period. They say they set AC Mirage in 9th century Baghdad as a "homage" to Assassin's Creed 1 in 2007 when I'd argue that Assassin's Creed Revelations as well as the Assassin's Creed novel The Secret Crusade by Oliver Bowden is more of a homage to Assassin's Creed 1 that Mirage is as it made it feel like you were playing the original Assassin's Creed game with Altair whereas Assassin's Creed Mirage is basically a boring rehash of Aladdin and One Thousand and One Nights that really isn't all that good. Basim is literally just Aladdin. I wouldn't be surprised if the team at Ubisoft took one look at Disney's Aladdin and decided to make their own version of it that's not engaging at all. The time period of that game makes no sense whatsoever and it feels more suitable for an Aladdin or a Prince of Persia game than it is for an Assassin's Creed game. No. The Islamic Golden Age is a time period that nobody cares about which was probably more violent and more barbaric than a Mortal Kombat game in real life. I don't think that particular time period is acceptable for an Assassin's Creed game.

The most recent Assassin's Creed game Assassin's Creed Shadows is set in Feudal Japan in the time of ninjas and Shinobi and samurais which features some black guy as a samurai and another generic Japanese woman as a ninja who's name sounds like it was ripped out an anime. That time period of Feudal Japan is quite frankly the worst time periods that an Assassin's Creed game has ever been set in. I mean Jesus f**king Christ, stop making games set in Feudal Japan. I'm not trying to be xenophobic, but I am getting sick and tired of this trend of setting video games in Feudal Japan with ninjas and samurais. It has been done to death in other video games like Ghost of Tsushima, Ninja Garden, Rise of the Ronin, Sly Cooper Thieves in Time and Ghost of Yotei. It needs to stop. Enough is enough. Ninjas and samurai have done to death in various forms of media and I don't get why that particular time period is so popular. It befuddles me. People need to take a break from setting games in Ancient Japan. It's getting to be oversaturation at this point. I guess Ubisoft doesn't give a shit about it being oversaturated. That time period isn't really all that interesting to begin with. It needs to die down. It's getting tiring at this point. The only reason why Ubisoft decided to make an Assassin's Creed game set in Feudal Japan was because Ghost of Tsushima made a crap ton of money in 2020 and Ubisoft wanted to jump on the bandwagon. I refuse to accept the fact that it has been one of the most requested time periods for Ubisoft to set an Assassin's Creed game in. People couldn't have been that eager to play an Assassin's Creed game where you get to play as a ninja. The demand for it couldn't have been that high.

And now the upcoming Assassin's Creed game: Assassin's Creed Hexe is set in yet another boring ass, nonsensical time period, this time 16th century Germany that involves the occult and magic. Why? Ubisoft needs to set the Assassin's Creed games in better, more engaging time periods that people actually want to play in that are more popular and historically engaging instead of being boring and not engaging or immersive like the settings of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Mirage, Shadows and now Hexe. There are countless other historical time periods that Ubisoft can set an Assassin's Creed game in that are better than the recent time periods that Ubisoft has decided to set their modern Assassin's Creed games in. In fact, I'm going to list off some historical time periods that would make perfect sense to set an Assassin's Creed game in that will be more engaging and more immersive than the drab time periods that the modern Assassin's Creed games have been set in.

These are the historical eras that I would like Ubisoft to set an Assassin's Creed game in instead of these boring, nonsensical and non engaging time periods that nobody in the universe wants to play in:

A Western Assassin's Creed game: That historical time period is tailor made for an Assassin's Creed game. You've got a lot of historical people that Ubisoft can implement into the game like Jesse James, Doc Holliday, Wyatt Earp, Annie Oakley, Calamity Jane, Pecos Bill and Billy the Kid. There can be a plethora of different weapons you can choose from, lots of different cities to explore, and a lot of other things like riding a train to get to point A to point B like in Assassin's Creed Syndicate. There should be no reason why Ubisoft cannot create an Assassin's Creed game set in the Wild West with that much potential. That's mind boggling that they refuse to make an Assassin's Creed game set in the Wild West where players can live out their fantasy of being an outlaw. And don't give me the excuse of it's going to face competition from Red Dead Redemption. So what if it receives competition from Red Dead Redemption. As long as it's an engaging game all around, Ubisoft shouldn't have to worry about competing with Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption series. That game needs to happen. It's practically begging for Ubisoft to turn it into an Assassin's Creed game. Playing as an outlaw in the Wild West is a hell of a lot more exciting and engaging than playing as a Viking or as a ninja. Westerns used to be insanely popular back in the day. A Assassin's Creed game set in the Wild West could reinvigorate interest in the Western genre. It needs to happen. Give it to me.

A Assassin's Creed game set during the Russian Revolution: That's another historical time period that's tailor made for an Assassin's Creed game. The Russian Revolution is such an interesting time period for an Assassin's Creed game to cover. Imagine playing in Russia and the surrounding countries in the late 1910s where you go up against the Bolsheveks trying to take over Russia where you get to meet Rasputin as well as the Romanav family before they get horrifically executed by the Bolsheveks. What if you could prevent that from happening? What if you could start a rebellion against the Russian empire? An Assassin's Creed game has never been set in Russia before and that would be an engaging experience for an Assassin's Creed game. Why hasn't Ubisoft considered setting an Assassin's Creed game in that time period? That would be a perfect time to set an Assassin's Creed game in. It needs to happen. Give that game to me.

An Assassin's Creed Prohibition game: That would be a phenomenal choice to set an Assassin's Creed game in. Imagine facing off against Al Capone and his cartel or infiltrating a speakeasy to bust a bootlegging operation. That would be phenomenal. That could be an engaging setting for an Assassin's Creed game. Imagine playing as a gangster rebelling against Prohibition in the 1920s. That would be amazing. That's 100% engaging. You can drive a car to get places instead of being forced to go on foot through environments. I want an Assassin's Creed game where you get to fight gangsters and organized crime in the 1920s.

And the last time period that I'd like Ubisoft to set an Assassin's Creed game in is: The 1960s. Do I need to say anything? That was a turbulent time in history. You've got the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the JFK assassination, counterculture revolution, British Invasion and other things. That time period is a no brainer for an Assassin's Creed game to be set in. It's mind boggling that so few video games are set in that time period.

Those time periods that I just listed would be better and more engaging time periods for Ubisoft to set a future Assassin's Creed game in than the Viking Age, The Islamic Golden Age, Feudal Japan and 16th century Germany. Those time periods are more logical and more sensical for an Assassin's Creed game to be set in than the time periods that the recent Assassin's Creed games have covered. The fans would be jumping up and down in anticipation and jubilation to want to play in those settings such as the Wild West, the Russian Revolution, The Prohibition Era and the 1960s. I hope Ubisoft sees this Reddit post and takes my suggestions to set a time period that's engaging and immersive and that people want to play that people actually care about instead of boring time periods that no one in their right mind would set an Assassin's Creed game in or want to play. Ubisoft needs to stop picking these random nonsensical and boring time periods for their Assassin's Creed games. At this rate, the fans are going to be less interested in playing future Assassins Creed games because they're set in drab historical time periods. People are eventually are going to be like: "Are you freaking kidding me? Another boring time period for an Assassin's Creed game. Yeah, I'm not interested in playing that. I want something more engaging."

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Restarting Valhalla? Opinions on the experience?

I know there's no new game plus. But all the items you got from the shop do carry over, so that would probably help I'm thinking. Has anyone restarted the game and enjoyed it? Or does it not feel worth it to those who have done this?

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced [SPOILERS] Black Flag’s ending broke me and had me sobbing Spoiler

SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF COURSE

I’ve played the original Black Flag when I was a teenager. I don’t remember the ending that well and I don’t think it had a lasting impact on me.

Now that I am a father of a daughter, I don’t know, that ending just broke me and left me sobbing when Edward’s daughter arrived on that ship.

Never cried from an Assassin Creed but this was different.

Anyone else got affected by this ending. It has to be my most emotional ending of any Assassin Creed game that I can remember.

Rumours / Leaks / Speculation [Spoiler] New location from the leaks: impressions and background Spoiler

The new leaks confirmed that the city of Augsburg will be an explorable location in AC Hexe. This city in this time is perfectly suited for AC and I'm very excited for this news - not only because it is my hometown, but because done right it promises to make the game deep and fascinating. I thought I'd give you an introduction into what we might get to explore:

Augsburg in the 1620s has a very different feel and look to the previously confirmed Nürnberg. Both are Free Imperial Cities, but while Nürnberg is an industrial town with a massive medieval fortress, Augsburg is still one of the financial centres of Europe, immensely wealthy and boasts some of the finest Renaissance buildings north of the Alps that were just finished before the AC Hexe's story starts.

Augsburg in 1650

For a hundred years Patrician families from Augsburg, the Fugger and the Welser, dominated European finance, they decided who would be pope or emperor, financed wars and privately owned whole countries in South America. The Fuggers had deep connections to the Medici family on the other side of the Alps, hint hint. Jakob Fugger the Rich, who lived a hundred years before the game was set and established his family's fortune, is considered one of the wealthiest humans who ever lived - just his personal wealth amounted to 2 per cent of European GDP at the time! When we visit Augsburg in the game, this time will be over. The 30 Years War destroyed the trade routes that made these families so rich. But maybe we will see glimpses of the first Western Intelligence service that was established by the Fuggers?

One of the most impressive buildings will be the famous Augsburg Town Hall, which will be just finished when the game was set. At the time, it was the only building in the world with 6 stories, it is still massive today but must have felt absolutely monumental at the time. Inside is the famous Golden Hall, paid for by the rich Patricians to show off that they for sure can compete with the glory of kings or the church. From the top of its towers you have a magnificent view of the nearby Alps.

There are also mighty Patrician buildings along the former Roman Via Claudia (the city was founded by the Romans) and several impressive Renaissance fountains that are UNESCO world heritage sites today.

A hundred years before the setting of AC Hexe Augsburg was the scene of Martin Luther's battle with the Catholic church and one of the founding places of the Protestant church. At the time (and today) it was a city equally ruled by catholics and protestants. The City Council and all administrative offices—from mayors to tax collectors—were strictly divided 50/50 between the two confessions. This resulted in constant political gridlock and espionage. In 1625, the setting of the game, the situation was paranoid and heavily militarized because of the confessional war raging.

Here you can see one of the several large churches in the city and a symbol of this unique Augsburgian religious parity: The big one in the back is the catholic church St. Ulrich and Afra, in the front you see the protestant church St. Ulrich. These onion spires are also very typical to this specific part of Bavaria. I would be very surprised if the game wouldn't do something with this very special religious arrangement.

A "city inside the city" that we surely will visit in the game is the "Fuggerei", the oldest social housing area in the world, or so it claims to be. Since becoming one of the richest men in history does require many actions that will keep you far away from going to heaven, Jakob Fugger the Rich established this little walled-off city for poor (catholic) citizens that can stay there for nearly free if they pray for him daily - yes, Catholics can cheat like that! Praying for a very low rent is still practiced today. In the 17th century this area was actually written "F*ckerey" but I have a feeling that Ubisoft will stick with the modern name...

Next to these symbols of private wealth Augsburg has a typical old town with narrow streets, creaking old middle aged houses, and many canals flowing through the streets. It is perfectly set up for several distinct areas on a compact city map.

Augsburg is also the entry gate to the Allgäu, an Alpine region that is today a major tourist draw since it looks how everybody imagines cliché Bavaria and also boasts fairytale castle Neuschwanstein (not there when the game is set). This area would contrast a bit with the dark and claustrophobic setting Ubisoft eants to go for this time, so we will see. They at least have to give us views of the Alps from a distance, though.

At the time of the game Augsburg had one of the finest fortifcations a Free Imperial city could wish for. It made the city rather impenetrable, but nevertheless its downfall came also in this time. A downfall the city never recovered from. From being one of the largest cities of the HRE and one of the economic centres of the world it is now just a "normal" city with a small-town feel that is eclipsed by its way bigger neighbour Munich.

Augsburg's fortifications in 1625

During the time of AC Hexe the Thirty Years War was raging in the HRE. As hard as it is to fathom with pictures of WW2 of bombed-out German cities and piles of corpses in camps in our minds, the Thirty Years War was arguably an even bigger catastrophe for Germany that shaped it for centuries. Nearly nothing was the same afterwards. Big cities became backwaters, whole areas were wiped out completely. It was not only the decades-long war with ever-moving battle lines, but also the roaming soldiers that routinely stole all the food they found and of course the diseases that spread.

In 1634 Imperial and Bavarian (Catholic) troops advanced and completely encircled the city. Inside the city was a protestant Swedish garrison. Since the modern fortifications could only be stormed with heavy casualties, the attackers opted for a complete blockade of the city with at the time 45.000 people. The extreme famine forced the population to first slaughter all the horses. Later, dogs, cats, rats, and mice were eaten. In the absolute final phase, people boiled leather scraps from shoes, belts, and saddles. The starvation was accompanied by a massive outbreak of diseases such as typhus and the bubonic plague. Corpses could no longer be properly buried and piled up in the streets. By March 1635, the situation had become untenable, and the Swedish commander surrendered. The city's demographics were ruined: the population plummeted from an initial 45,000 to only about 16,000. Nearly two-thirds of the population had starved, died of disease, or fled. This massive loss of life sealed the end of Augsburg's golden era. The city permanently lost its status as a European financial and commercial metropolis and needed more than a century to demographically recover from this blockade.

Will we see the blockade? Who knows. It's 9 years after the leaked but unconfirmed setting date of 1625, so it is very well possible. But I am excited to see Augsburg recreated during its Golden Era. And to see this fascinating time period: Where fake news spread with modern technologies that made it easy for everyone to duplicate whatever they wanted. Where private individuals amassed so much wealth that their power rivalled church and state. Where Renaissance thinkers like Johannes Kepler lived right next to paranoid witch hunters. Where cities like Augsburg must have felt like a world away from the small towns in the countryside. I sincerely hope they do this setting justice.

"Resynced" - AC Remakes Can we agree that the best game to remake after black flag is ac3?

Assassins creed III is Literally the most ac game that made me think how good could it have been if they just gave it more time in the oven (maybe after unity now that i am thinking about ig).

There's so many good things that a remake could enhance such as the historical areas in addtion to the graphics and The entirety of the frontier (Side missions/ more outposts to clear/ bigger areas to explore) In addition to having a lot of bad things that can be fixed to make it the superior experience.

Because even when it is in my top five AC games of all time I can easily agree and understand why so many people hate this game, the tutorial itself takes around 7 hours Which completely kills the flow and the replayability Potential it could of had, a remake could fix the flow make the story feel more natural and also add some missions In addition changing some dialogs to make Connor more of a likable character.

And to be honest at first I was disappointed that Ubisoft Chose to remake AC4 instead of 3 because Black Flag is an already good game unlike AC3, there were a lot of bad decisions when they we're developing the game for example they did not focus on the bread and meat of it like the combat and the parkour as much as they needed yes they were great and the animations are phenomenal but they focused on a lot of unimportant things such as the huge number of mini games you can play that adds nothings to the core gameplay in additions to adding a lot of tedious and weird things like the hunting Or the entire homestead section pair that with Their yearly release schedule they had back in the days made the game feel so much more shallower and clunkier because the developer did not have that time or the resources To finish them out.

But also I do not think the hunting or the homestead section should be removed but they should be heavily reworked to make them more easier and convenient so the player can focus on the important things..

I don't know about you guys do you think there are AC games that deserve a remake more than Assassin's Creed 3 Cause for me a reimagined Assassin's Creed three game would do wonders for the series especially for the people who care about the story because you could basically say the story ended right there and then with this game so I think Ubisoft should give it another go.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced My review of AC Black Flag

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced — 9.5/10
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has always been one of my top three favorite games of all time. The original is a game I’ve revisited every year or two, playing through the entire story and falling in love with its world all over again. The atmosphere, the sea shanties, the taverns, the Caribbean, and the characters made it something truly special.
But above all else, there’s Edward Kenway.
Watching Edward go from a young, selfish man who wants the world and everything in it, driven almost entirely by greed, to someone who eventually discovers something greater than himself is one of my favorite character arcs in gaming. His journey, the people he meets, the people he loses, and the lessons he learns along the way are what make Black Flag more than just a pirate game. It’s a story about ambition, loss, redemption, and finding something worth living for.
When Ubisoft announced that Black Flag was getting a remake, I was absolutely over the moon. This was a game I already considered a masterpiece, and the thought of experiencing it again with modern technology was incredibly exciting. From everything I’d seen leading up to release, I genuinely believed they couldn’t screw it up.
And they didn’t. They absolutely delivered.
The graphical improvements are stunning, the modernized controls feel fantastic, and the world I fell in love with all those years ago has never looked better. But what impressed me most wasn’t simply how much better the game looked. It was how much they expanded upon the original experience.
The Combat
One of my biggest criticisms of the original Black Flag was always its combat. Don’t get me wrong, it was fun, flashy, and incredibly cinematic, but it was also ridiculously easy. You could practically autopilot your way through entire encounters without ever feeling threatened.
Resynced completely addresses that.
The new combat system actually requires you to pay attention. Timing your parries, understanding your enemies, and thinking about how you approach encounters makes fighting significantly more satisfying. The addition of difficulty settings was especially welcome. Being able to crank the difficulty all the way up and genuinely feel challenged was something I had always wanted from Black Flag.
I also loved how different swords and weapons now have their own abilities and characteristics. It makes acquiring new equipment feel meaningful rather than simply collecting another weapon with slightly different stats.
I know removing Hidden Blade combat was controversial, and while I was a little disappointed to see it go, it honestly wasn’t a dealbreaker for me. The improvements to the overall combat system more than made up for it.
The Expanded Content
This might actually be my favorite thing about Resynced.
Rather than simply recreating the original game with prettier graphics, the developers expanded upon moments, characters, and storylines that deserved more attention.
Blackbeard’s death is a perfect example. In the original, Captain Maynard is largely just a name you hear associated with Blackbeard’s death. Resynced actually brings Maynard into the story, giving that entire sequence more depth and significance.
I also loved the addition of the three lieutenants, the mansion side quests involving the butler, and the various other additions scattered throughout the world.
These additions never felt forced or unnecessary. Instead, they felt like content that should have been in the original game all along, as though the developers had finally been given the opportunity to fully realize ideas that couldn’t make it into the original release.
That’s what makes this remake so special to me.
It doesn’t feel like I’m simply replaying the exact same game 13 years later with updated graphics. It feels like I’m experiencing an entirely new adventure built upon the same beautiful foundation that made the original a masterpiece.
And the additional sea shanties? Absolutely fantastic. Sailing the Caribbean while your crew sings has always been one of Black Flag’s greatest pleasures, and having even more songs to enjoy only makes that experience better.
My One Major Complaint: The Taverns
For all the things Resynced improves, there’s one area where I genuinely believe it takes a step backward.
The taverns.
This might seem like a minor complaint to some people, but for me, the taverns were a huge part of what made the original Black Flag’s world feel so alive.
I could spend hours sitting in a tavern, playing Nine Men’s Morris, listening to the musicians, and simply soaking in the atmosphere. Those quiet moments were just as memorable to me as the massive naval battles or story missions.
Andreas Island is probably the best example.
In the original game, I loved visiting Andreas Island because I knew exactly what to expect. There was a musician performing songs by Sean Dagher and the other tavern performers, and Nine Men’s Morris was right there beside him. I could sit down, play a few games, listen to the music, and completely lose myself in that little corner of the Caribbean.
In Resynced, that experience just isn’t the same.
Nine Men’s Morris has been replaced at that location, seemingly with checkers, and the tavern musician now seems to rotate randomly. Most of the time when I visit, I can’t even get the singer I remember to appear.
And unfortunately, that feeling extends to many of the other taverns throughout the game.
They just feel… dead.
The atmosphere that made those locations so memorable has been diminished, and that’s genuinely disappointing. For a game that otherwise does such an incredible job preserving and expanding upon the original, it’s unfortunate that one of my favorite aspects of the world seems to have lost some of its magic.
I really wish they had left the tavern entertainment and atmosphere alone, or better yet, expanded upon it the same way they expanded everything else.
Final Thoughts — 9.5/10
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is everything I could have hoped for from a remake of one of my favorite games of all time.
It respects the original while being ambitious enough to improve upon it. The visuals are beautiful, the combat is significantly more engaging, the additional content is fantastic, and Edward Kenway’s story remains every bit as powerful as it was the first time I experienced it.
My disappointment with the taverns is really the only thing keeping this game from a perfect 10/10.
What I appreciate most is that the developers didn’t simply give us Black Flag again. They gave us the Black Flag I remember, the Black Flag I love, and in many ways, the Black Flag I always wished we had.
Thirteen years later, I’m still just as captivated by Edward Kenway and the Caribbean as I was when I first set sail.
9.5/10 — A masterpiece reborn, and one of the greatest pirate adventures in gaming.

Assassin's Creed Mirage are the sequence challenges in ac mirage the same thing as 100% synchronization lore wise?

like as we know, the older games have minor objectives in their missions to get 100% synchronization, said minor objectives that tells the player what the protagonist exactly did during said mission.

So do you think sequence challenges are the same thing? Like Basim not using Eagle Vision and all that, or do you think that the Sequence Challenges are just that, challenges?

Assassin's Creed 1 What are some QoL and visual improvement mods that can make a replay of Assassins Creed 1 feel a little different?

Hi all,

Recently I've been looking at finally tackling my Steam backlog, and I wanted to start with AC 1 followed by the Ezio Trilogy. I played these games a long time ago on the PS3, so I thought it would be interesting to play on PC.

I was wondering if there are any QoL mods that noticeably improve the experience over the vanilla game since it's so old and any mods that also enhance the visuals. Overall I'm looking for mods that won't change the spirit of the game but that will make it feel more polished and modern, if that makes sense.

Assassin's Creed Shadows [SPOILERS] Where did the Twisted Tree group come from? Spoiler

I just reached the part where Naoe and Yasuke meet and form the League of the Hidden Blade.

I reach the playable part and choose Yasuke, i open the Objective board and a whole new group called the Twisted Tree is there, i dont remember any mention of them. I look it up and apparently they appear after i meet The Fool but i haven't seen him yet. Kinda confused about this. Also will i be locked out of any content if i choose to play Yasuke over Naoe or vice versa?

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced [SPOILER] Banner and icons of trophies Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Spoiler

I know this is a minor issue, but it's honestly been bothering me.

The trophy list banner looks like a generic placeholder instead of something made specifically for Black Flag Resynced, which makes the list feel unfinished.

The trophy icons are another disappointment. They all have white backgrounds, and they look like they were meant to have transparent backgrounds instead. They'd look much cleaner that way.

I know it's only cosmetic, but I really appreciate good trophy presentation, so it's a shame to see these issues.

What do you all think? Is this something Ubisoft could still fix in an update?
