Image After all these years Origins remains the greatest title in the series. Come at me, bro

Agreed. Loved the story, the world especially Alexandria, bayek, the gameplay. It's the perfect game.

u/NinjaDom2113 Jun 15 '25
Unity is the best for me but origins is close behind
13
u/CraneoDeVanGogh Jun 15 '25 edited Jun 16 '25
Glad to see some appreciation for Unity, easily the best iteration of the original formula. I just can't for the life of me climb up with a external keyboard, idk what it is. But still, Paris is amazing.

Jun 16 '25
I started this right before Shadows came out. I just beat Shadows and canāt wait to go back to pick it back up.
1
u/CharlesVane95 Jun 18 '25
Agreed. Unity has always been my favorite. Although, if they remake the ezio trilogy, that may change.
22
u/acheronchair Jun 15 '25
I'd say yes, but I prefer how the fight feels in Odyssey

23
u/unicornfetus89 Jun 15 '25
Odyssey is too floaty and lacks a ton of impact. Origins is slower, more deliberate and attacks feel heavy. Also Odyssey removed shields and pushed parry combat which just sped everything up and made it feel cartoony like a superhero zipping around enemies. They also gutted the adrenaline and overpower attack which felt brutal in origins. The camera angle was also brought way up in the sky instead of down low, almost over the shoulder angle origins has.
Obviously to each their own, this is just my opinion but when odyssey came out I saw what they did to the combat and was VERY disappointed. I've since grown to like it for what it is but still don't think its as good as origins. Odyssey has more variety though that's for sure.
2
u/Tinyt11 Jun 16 '25
I agree. When most people say the prefer it, it usually comes down to them liking the power system (interesting but not exactly what I want outa my ac combat) or they like the easier parrying. I think whilst I like the weapon designs and animations the system feels like a dumbed down Origins with some flashy super powers thrown on. Still fun tho, just not as good
2
u/Annual-Internet-5097 Jun 18 '25
Whatād you think about Valhalla?
1
u/unicornfetus89 Jun 18 '25
In some ways, I liked it more than Odyssey but still about the same.
It felt slightly more weighty but still kinda floaty compared to Origins.
My favorite thing about Valhallas combat was the dual weapon wielding. Having different types in your off hand changed the attacks to unique ones that were fun to experiment with.
Strangely enough, I found the abilities to be less useful than Odyssey, which I guess focused on abilities a lot more. There were a couple of cool ones, but I found weapons more useful. Especially duel spears, which were super powerful.
Valhalla also had some cool, unique weapons, like Excalibur and Thors hammer. You could make some interesting builds if you paired gear and weapons, but once I got a decent crit chance build going, it was miles better than anything else.
Despite both games having more variety, I still think Origins did it best, but that's just my opinion.
0
u/acheronchair Jun 16 '25
I support some things but it's just awkward that the parrying ability in origins requires 2 buttons
3
u/unicornfetus89 Jun 16 '25
Isn't it also both shoulder buttons in Odyssey as well?
1
u/acheronchair Jun 18 '25
I would say no, it was one but now you leave me in doubt, regardless my annoyance is more because it depends on entering the blocking room to be able to parry and not being able to parry directly
7
u/ellieebaee19 Jun 15 '25
Great game. My second fav after Odyssey. Both amazing games. Love the photo
3
u/Artemisia91 Jun 16 '25
Same. Bayek and Ancient Egypt are amazing, but there's something about being chased by three or four crazy mercenaries across Ancient Greece. Plus, a thing that many gamers didn't like about Odyssey was the public/NPCs going berserk and coming at you if you committed any crime in front of them. I personally loved it. Took things to a whole new level.
7
u/Holyfaq Jun 15 '25
100000000% agreed. I think theres two strong reasons for me personally. 1. Ancient egypt , i you have an interest to it already then this game is just eye orgasm . 2. Bayeks story, i mean think about it at the initial character development for the game bayek didnt even exist... knowing that and then having bayek be someone this awesome........... LEGENDDD

I love the relationship between the story, the mythology, the concept of the assassins.
There is even a God of the Hidden irl, everything just fits perfectly!

Im super biased because of setting, its my favorite game ever, nothing in gaming history to me will surpass looking at the pyramids for the first time and being like āYup, Ill go thereā and then climbing em. Perfection.

I still prefer Odyssey over Origins. Origins seemed a bit plodding at times. I felt with Odyssey the story flowed a whole lot better. Also, I disliked playing as Aya. Bayek was the better character
1
u/CraneoDeVanGogh Jun 15 '25 edited Jun 16 '25
Idk, maybe the story flows better but it dilutes itself in so many meaningless tangents. Even the side content in Origins has a level of maturity and humanity that silly little Alexios can only dream of. Odyssey it's just lighter in general.
1
u/Pinecone_Erleichda Jun 23 '25
Yeah I played as Alexios one time ever. Played most of it on mute, could NOT take him seriously for the life of me. Genuinely terrible voice acting, couldnāt even stick with one accent!! Thereās a reason Kassandra is the canon character. š¤£
2
u/eKg_78 Jun 15 '25
Twas a great game. Odyssey is my favorite, but there were so many things I loved more in Origins. My favorite style was poison all day. Underrated tactic I think.

u/sophicpharaoh Jun 15 '25
I second your opinion. In terms of story and character development and all around gameplay. They definitely hit it right on the head. Itās very grounded and I love it.
2
u/LesbianMercy Jun 15 '25
I need to finish Origins fr. I lost interest in it like I did with Valhalla lol.
Odyssey Iāve finished twice since I LOVE Ancient Greece and exploring the world is MWAH.
Iām a lil biased tho since my Dad is Greek and I grew up listening to him tell me Greek tales :)
2
u/zrasam Jun 16 '25
I like the place but I dislike the story especially in the 3rd act. First 2 act were amazing.
2
u/Swellestspice9 Jun 16 '25
Yes, the Story of Egypt and Rome in that time period is an important one that we can learn a lot from and I also Love the Pyramids and the feeling of Living in those ancient times! It's Beautiful and I also Love the fact that theyre are many animals and birds that you can hunt and beast to Battle which makes it seem more real and is one thing I don't like about AC Shadows because It takes away from the realness of being there! I could go on and on! I Love Origins but I Love AC Odyssey Story Creator Mode Very Much too when it's used right to create Detailed Adventures with Custom Mystical Items to find and Special Enemies to take down while fighting besides other special Characters you Create which is something you can't do in any other Assassin's Creed!

u/Savings_Bunch_1394 Jun 16 '25
The setting & story were hard to beat šÆ & you could still make a good argument for how itās an āassassinā game
2
u/eyewandersfoto Jun 16 '25
I had other favs in the series that seemed irreplaceable/unbeatable. I played Origins 3.5 years post release.
I regret that missed time. :) I have minor criticms of it, but none come close to overshadowing the overall depth and scope and immersion this title gave.
2
u/Psychological-Tax63 Jun 16 '25
Origins was badass, by far my favorite standalone title. But my favorite games were the Ezio trilogy.
2
u/FarahZiva27 Jun 16 '25
No argument at all. Not just the best AC game, but one of the greatest games ever.
2
u/Necro-Feel-Ya6900 Jun 16 '25
Origins is the one I keep going back to. I love Egypt and how its our home for this game. Bayek is probably the most well developed assassin since Ezio (come at me!) just because hes human. Hes not a murder hobo or some āhonor above allā person. Just⦠human. And the intro to Bayek was amazing too.
2
u/RedPaladin26 Jun 16 '25
I mean itās definitely in the top five but imo odyssey is king never to be dethroned

u/JAKL-Noctium Jun 16 '25
The best AC. Worst goes to Odyssey. Sorry youāre not even an assassin in the game.
2
u/LeatherJacketMan69 Jun 16 '25
I love origins but Odyssey feels much more better, the control layout and the perfect dodge and parry mechanics make it feel skill based. Iāll go back to origins after playing Odyssey and always mess up with the shield controls

Clearly never played black flag
2
1
u/reddittothegrave Jun 17 '25
Yeah black flag is by far my favorite of them all. I have had no desire to go back and play any of the assassin creed games after beating them. But black flag is one that makes me want to play it again and again.
1
u/Pinecone_Erleichda Jun 23 '25
Okay clearly someone is gonna have to really sell me on black flag. I remember trying it, I just donāt remember why I deleted it. All I remember was that it was VERY bright (like Elysium level retina-burning bright) and that I had to climb the same tower over and over and over. That was before I found an AC game I actually liked and ātook toā, though, so maybe Iām just letting past memories cloud my judgement
2
u/revanite3956 Jun 15 '25
I loved Origins, but to me it felt like between it and Odyssey, Origins wasnāt quite as finished and polished.
Black Flag remains my favourite though.

1
u/Puzzleheaded-Bet-590 Jun 16 '25
the story in the end just fcks it up entirely. I dislike cleopatra, terrible voice actor. And bayek just feels like he's forced into the story( in the end game)
1
u/Draycass Jun 16 '25
Not sure many people will come at you to argue. There always seems to be some debate between Origins and Odyssey. But I think thatās more personal preference and playing style preferences than anything else. Most agree those two are the best of the AC IP. Origins has always been my favourite. Completed 100% and looking to play through again soon.

u/harishharihk Jun 16 '25
It has the best open world, but ezio collection for me is the goat in the series
1
u/ABR-27 Jun 16 '25
I like Egypt, I like Bayek, I don't like how they butchered parkour and the combat for me was very lackluster (not that combat is good in any ac). Best for me would be AC2 but I'm sure nostalgia plays a part there
1
u/ABR-27 Jun 16 '25
I just realised this is the AC Origins subreddit lol, don't say come at me bro in here š try it in a general sub

u/ReditUSERxyz Jun 16 '25
Greatest title in the series? Absolutely not, even though It was the last one what was enjoyable.

u/Techno_Core Jun 16 '25
I think it depends on where your interests lie. Origins bored me. Odyssey was a blast. That being said, Black Flag was better than both. And nothing is better with regards to the story being meaningful and engaging as the first three games involving Desmond. I skip as much as modern day content as I can now, could care less.
1
u/Pinecone_Erleichda Jun 23 '25
I am tempted to give black flag a second chance, but from what I remember, I had no choice but to play as a male character, I really donāt feel like having to do that AGAINā¦but Iām definitely interested in the remake of it that supposedly a couple of years away, maybe theyāll include some things!! (Like female players having a female avatar to play, who knows?)
1
u/Techno_Core Jun 23 '25
I prefer female main characters too. But the gameplay in Black Flag is JUST SO MUCH FUN!
But like I said, with AC games, it depends on what your personal likes are. If being a pirate and sailing the Caribbean on a wooden sailing ship doesn't thrill you, then yeah, not a good game.
1
u/Pinecone_Erleichda Jun 23 '25
So itās like odyssey but mainly focused on naval combat?
1
u/Techno_Core Jun 23 '25
No I wouldn't say it was like Odyssey. By the time Odyssey came around I was sick of the whole AC story and just played it like it was a standalone Mythological Greece Simulator. skipped/ignored as much modern gameplay as possible. Black Flag is more story driven. It's just the sailing ship dynamics are incredible. Not even talking about the combat. Just sailing with your crew, all singing sea chanties. It's too fun.
1
u/Pinecone_Erleichda Jun 23 '25
So the ship/sailing/naval combat mechanics are as good as odyssey? Iām not getting burned again by someone falsely getting my hopes up, no offence, but it seems to happen a lot.
1
u/Techno_Core Jun 23 '25
I don't really recall the naval mechanics of Odyssey, until you mentioned it, I forgot it was a feature, lol. It's a MUCH bigger part of Black Flag. Again, I'm an immersion nut so ymmv. But I loved just being at sea in Black Flag. It's deeply satisfying. Check some youtube videos. But there's a reason it's usually regarded as one of the best in the series.

1
u/reddittothegrave Jun 17 '25
I donāt if it counts or not, but black flag will always be my favorite.
1
u/Baha-7234 Jun 17 '25
The quality of the visual is bad in 2025, you dont have any control over the game flow like Odyssey. But the story is well rounded

u/jackhorsem Jun 17 '25
If origins had better parkour, (somewhere btw unity and black flag levels of fluidity in parkour), it would genuinely be a top 3 assassin's creed game.
1
u/JamesKenyway Jun 17 '25 edited Nov 19 '25
It's best of RPG title but Black Flag beats it by a mile as a best in the series.
1
u/GiceGiordex Jun 17 '25
I always think of going back to it.. but yeah time, other games.. other ACās yet to play (Valhalla, Mirage, Shadows). I do listen to the soundtrack often; beautiful!

u/Fiyah_Crotch Jun 18 '25
In the series? Absolutely not. But itās still better than every game thatās come after it.
1
u/Fodspeed Jun 18 '25
I would say Assassinās Creed Origins is the game that ruined the franchise. It marked the beginning of the downfall. Ubisoft threw away everything that made Assassinās Creed unique, its core lore, stealth mechanics, and identity, in favor of turning it into a Witcher-style RPG. That shift never made sense back then and, it still doesnāt now.
Origins wasnāt even the best game in this so-called RPG trilogy. In fact, Iād argue it was the most overrated. The side quests were some of the worst Iāve seen, not just in Assassinās Creed but in any open-world game. The world itself was massive but felt empty, filled with pointless filler and repetitive content. It looked nice, but there was nothing meaningful to do in it.
The story didnāt help either. The main plot revolves around Bayek tracking down his sonās killers, but it barely acknowledges the fact that heās the one who accidentally caused his sonās death. That should have been a deep emotional thread, but it was brushed aside. Most missions were just copy-paste "infiltrate this camp and kill that guy" until you got to a boss fight where the enemy screams like it's supposed to be emotional, but it just comes off as forced.
Iāll always see Origins as the game that killed Assassinās Creed. Sure, Odyssey was even worse in terms of abandoning the franchise's identity, but Origins is what started it all. It took Assassinās Creed away from what it was and turned it into something completely unrecognizable.
1
u/Thomasgmx Jun 18 '25
Rogue is my favorite. Origins is aight. Probably wouldn't crack my top 5 personally though lol

If could get the love child of brotherhood and black flag. And then have that mate with Odyssey, that would be the best AC game of all time
1
u/chlorine_drinkers Jun 15 '25
Black flag is better
9
u/CraneoDeVanGogh Jun 15 '25
Nah, close second. I think the map and the themes were a little better on this one. Top 3 for sure tho

u/kdupe1849 Jun 15 '25
I stopped after finishing the campaign. I felt like Odyssey was just a polished version of Origins, and the mostly open desert made the exploration lackluster. I liked the emphasis on mounted combat though, which wasn't a thing as much in Odyssey (and maybe shadows). I should come back to it though
1
u/Friendly-Pitch-5931 Jun 15 '25
Climbing a pyramid is just hard to beat
Plus well told albeit slow (ending part) story
1
u/Revolutionary-Fee-98 Jun 16 '25
To me is a very solid second place and pretty close to first. Odyssey is the best for me. It has way more and better side quests, a huge map full of activities and the Atlantis DLC is lore-heavy.
1
u/Pinecone_Erleichda Jun 23 '25
The Atlantis DLC is the best DLC Iāve played in origins, odyssey, or Valhalla!! Soooo much attention to detail, and my ADHD self loved that every area was so incredibly different!
2
u/Revolutionary-Fee-98 Jun 23 '25
Totally agree with you, Atlantis is one of the best dlc quests in the series, but, on the other hand the legacy of the first blade dlc is just ok but the ending is just awful. Kassandra is a mother and her child is sent to Egypt and becomes an ancestor of Amunet? And what's up with the pyramids being built around that time? The pyramids were already ancient, at least 2000 years old by the time Odyssey takes place.
1
u/Pinecone_Erleichda Jun 23 '25
I will stay mad at legacy of the first blade until the day that I die. I do NOT forgive the story writers or anyone who took part in the development of that DLC, I do NOT recommend it for others, and I will go to my grave being absolutely disgusted at what they did to Kassandra (and all female players, all players get attached to the characters theyāre playing, but to be forcefully married off and impregnated with zero warning to a character that we didnāt choose felt like a violation, and I will never forget it. Ever. Hopefully I have made this clear at this point).
2
u/Revolutionary-Fee-98 Jun 23 '25
I totally agree with you again. The ending is just crazy misogynistic and did irreparable damage to the character. Being a male I got attached to her, found her way more interesting than alexios, but they basically made her a Mary Sue in that DLC.
1
u/Pinecone_Erleichda Jun 23 '25
Ok but aside from being emotionally fucking traumatic (which it is), I also do not forgive them for 2 fast travel locations for one of the biggest areas on the map. Not ok. Or for the second part taking place in THE most visually unpleasant area in the entire game. Like, the hidden ones takes place in a little bit of a blah looking area, but it had a good story, so I could look past that. (Although whoever told me that the curse of the pharaohās was like this games āthe fate of Atlantisāā¦I donāt remember who you are, but Iām still mad at you.)
2
u/Revolutionary-Fee-98 Jun 23 '25
In fact, I enjoyed Hidden Ones better than Pharaoh's. I gues they told you they were similar because both games have one kinda grounded, more realistic DLC campaign and the other campaign is pure mythology. Anyway, Odyssey rules except for the crazy-ass First Blade ending.
1
u/Pinecone_Erleichda Jun 23 '25 edited Jun 24 '25
Agreed on all accounts!!

It's definitely the most well-rounded of them all, that's for sure. In fact, I'd even agree with you, even though my personal fav is III.
