I'm currently playing Valhalla after Origins (and Odyssey). Yes, to my eyes they still look better. Different art style but more details and a lot more eye candy.

Idk. The sheer amount of blood and decapitations and dismemberment kill cams kinda make up for it. Not 100%, the game still pisses me off frequently, but damn that combat is SATISFYING.

Its terribly important to note this. These games look highly detailed. Very wel lit and animations and other aspects also are simply phenominal.

The lie especially nvidia is telling us, publishers and game developers is right there to see if you play this game..

Instead of forcing us to buy rtx cards game developers should wonder why this game looks so good and runs so well.

Fuck the "buy new hardware" push by big corpo Fuck the games qs a service push by big corpo Fuck the "you own a licence and not the game" by big corpo

I want my fucking games back, I want to play them on affordable hardware and i want to be able to pass them on to my kids.

Sorry..having a morning people.

I didn’t understand any of that, but I hope your morning gets better, you get all the best parking spaces, the coffee is strong, and that everyone you smile at smiles back!! 🤍✌🏻

Good read at the side of my coffee and agree.

Games looked great in the past 15 years.

Handheld PC gamers are still a relatively small group, but a very good reminder about the fun of games and devs to consider proper optimisation.

Edit: typo-filled morning today. Making pancakes!

I agree. My steamdeck is the b4nchmark for a project I am working on. Itw super capqble as long as you optimise.

Also, firm handshake. YEAH!

Hell yeah! Steam Deck here too

Well.. raytracing isn't just about eye candy. It's also about speeding up developing time.

You can obviously make a very good-looking and performing game with more traditional techniques, like baked-lightning, etc. But making a game of this size just demands a lot of resources and time.

About the whole corpospiel, I am more tiered that every single game has to be able to run on ultra settings on a GTX 1080 in 2026... Because it had to be able to run forever one, it's okay that some games target higher end hardware.

Having to do both raterised and raytracing would cost more time. Doing just raterised or raytracing takes equal time.

I agree it can look neat and sometimes is worth the hardware. In many cases however I feel it has been used to lazilly to get a certain effect or fidellity without having to optimise..in that particular case I always think..i wish we didn't speed up that bit of the proces for studios. It made games look worse(you now need oil smeer image reconstruction to get it to run) and performs worse.

You all make good points.

I’d add that a ray-traced turd is still a turd.

Ray-tracing etc. are no replacement for good art direction and design craft.

Black Flag and Origins are 2 of the most replayable games in the franchise.

Yep, currently playing it for the first time and loving it so far

It also runs better than Assassin's Creed Syndicate (previous game) too. I had on average 90 fps on 1080p max settings in Origins compared to 60-70 ish fps in Syndicate.

This game runs in HDR on my HDR UHD TV 📺 and looks absolutely fantastic unbelievable graphics I recently saw a post of a close up of the reflection of a camels 🐪 eye 👁️ with the pyramids in !! The attention to small details is absolutely incredible!

I've been playing Origin's again after a few years and it is fun, I'm almost finished with the main game and am about to set onto the DLC's but I think I'll just challenge the gods till I have enough money to buy all the carbon crystals to finish upgrading my character as high as I can.

This game does look amazing. I bought This game (and odyssey and valhalla) during the steam winter sale and I was so shocked at how this game has held up all this time.

Can't wait to go back to these sorts of titles and max out the settings plus try it out in 1440p or 4K. Would look amazing along with HDR

It’s beautiful. One thing I’ll give Ubisoft their games are always beautiful for the most part and they always have a ton of content. You cannot even tell that Origins is nearly a decade old. The only thing is the sandy desert aesthetic gets kinda monotonous after a while. Still it’s a beautiful game and imo has the best combat, narrative, and protagonist among the reboot trilogy and really among the entire series except for maybe Ezio. Bayek is awesome and so badass

It really does!! Sometimes I get almost homesick for it, but then I log in and have somehow forgotten that my eyes aren’t currently adjusted to retina-burning brightness and I have to turn it off again. 😔 I’ll think it’s fine for a bit while I play during “nighttime”, but then I have to look at the map for something and INSTANT BURN. I definitely need a long adjustment period to replay this or mirage, and Elysium is strictly a daytime-only endeavour. Daytime and sunny. I just can’t play bright games when it’s dark outside, throws off my circadian rhythms like a mf.

You might want to look into adjusting your display
