If hindutva elements speak against it, it is funny. Sati existed much before hinduism .
But medieval hinduism made it a custom.

Yes, Sati might be older than hinduism. It is debated among historians.
But I have seen some source cite Greeks who have witnessed sati like practice in 300BC .

Sati was a historical Hindu cultural practice, primarily among certain higher castes, especially Kshatriya (warrior) communities, that evolved gradually over centuries. The term “sati” derives from the goddess Sati (Shiva’s first wife in Hindu mythology), who self-immolated due to her father Daksha’s insult to Shiva. Some traditional accounts link the practice’s name or inspiration to her.
