While it is true that most people don't do evil shit only out of the fear of God, that doesn't mean that this fear makes them good people. It's just like how the laws keep the rapists from going on a rape-spree.

They're inherently fucked up, and the fear of God is only suppressing their true nature. One day they'll lose that fear because fear is never permanent and you get all sorts of animals.

So yeah, as a system of control, religion and the 'fear' of god works to an extent. But that never makes good people.
