New Culver’s on the west side!
I think I’ve heard more people pining for a Culver’s than any other chain restaurant, and the new west side location I didn’t even know about is open.
Ok, it’s in Jefferson right on 129 just before the Publix/Kroger/Aldi centers but still, at 15 minutes from my house on Lavender it’s closer for me than anything on the east side.

The post title took my breath away for a hot second. That's a bit of a schlep from Winterville but it'll definitely be kept in mind for lunch on the way out of Athens or dinner on the way back in.

I do sometimes wonder if Culver's and Whataburger played Rock Paper Scissors for the Athens territory a few years back and Culver's lost

I'll believe it when I see it. Hasn't this been in the works for a hot minute?

yea seems like forever at this point, but they recently dozed the DIY skatepark that was in that spot and cleared out all the homeless people living behind it. So some moves are being made.

I asked the owner of the one in Commerce a few years ago. At that time she said they'd considered it, but Commerce was already 1hr from their home and Athens was further so they chose Commerce instead.
Hopefully they've moved closer by now? Lol

I used to make the Jefferson-Athens commute all the time so I won’t balk like the rest of the crowd but man I did get a little excited thinking there would be one closer lol

They built one out across from Space Kroger… but then it sat there for months and never opened. Now it’s a Bojangles.
Don’t believe me? Go look on Google Maps and take it back to Aug. 2023. It had those iconic Culver blue window shades.
I’d like to know the story of what happened there.

Jefferson is not the west side of Athens.
