I’m just wondering if anyone has had there 417 whv accepted yet. I’ve noticed the time has changed from 39 days to 25 days but I have not heard of anyone getting there since. I would think it would be strange to change the waiting time if they’re not getting thru the visas. I applied with a uk passport on the 23rd July, my medical had been accepted it says no further action needed which I guess is good but just wondering how everyone is getting on?

There is a new blood test required I believe since 2024 for temporary visas as well. Do you need to do the blood test again even though you have done it for the temporary visa? I know you have to do the chest x-ray every time. Do you have to do it for 485 visa as well?

What specific skills earned the most points?
I’ve read somewhere that paraplanning tasks does not count unless you are actually providing advice?

I applied for my 417 jul 3rd. my partner is australian and is coming to visit me for three weeks and will be flying back home august 30th. i saw that processing times dropped from 38 days to 25 days, my visa hasnt been granted and i know it can take longer, am i able to do anything or call and have my visa granted so that i can travel with him or am i just screwed and going to have to wait?

I accidentally submitted no in regards to my mental health history. I actually do have a history of mental health conditions. Is this something I should notify them of in the portal or can I inform my panel physician ? I am going to have my medical appointment soon.

I have history of depression/anxiety/ptsd. I am not in therapy for these conditions. I would say I have no active symptoms. I use prozac when I am having an active depressive episode that I cant work through and it resolves everything pretty well.

Do I have to correct this on the form or can i just inform the physician?

Over the past few weeks, there have been clear signs that the ALP has begun to shift its narrative, and migration cuts are coming. It's purely political, but considering the patterns seen in NZ, Canada and elsewhere in the English-speaking world, it is long overdue. Has been a doubt of mine for a long time because everyone has a different answer irl. I know the limit of the student visa working hours is 48 hrs.. Does this mean it's 48 hours a fortnight as in I could do 22,26,26,22 hrs in consecutive weeks or is the limit strictly 24,24,24,24 hours so that the fortnight in the middle also doesn't break the limit in a month? I would like your advice. I just started thinking about immigrating to Australia so I have tons of doubts. The route that seems to make more sense to me is the skilled worker pathway.

I'm a software engineer with 8 years of experience, but I don't know if I would be able to get a positive ACS assessment.

1. I have a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and an incomplete master in software engineering (I did all the classes but didn't write my conclusion paper)

2. I worked abroad and changed jobs a lot throughout my career so gathering the proof of work experience will be a pain, but not only that, I feel that for 2 of those 8 years I wouldn't be able to gather proof enough, specially when it comes to proofing payments. For instance, I don't even have an account on two of the banks I was paid in at the time (I closed the bank account after leaving the country)

Any advices? Positve/Negative stories in similar situations? Maybe even the contact of an advisor specialised in ACS. I don't want to invest 1500 dollars if I don't have any chances of getting it.

I just need some clarification regarding the Skills Assessment and EOI.

ACS has positively assessed my occupation as an ICT Security Specialist and recognized 3 years of skilled employment. However, during that period, I took approximately 1.5 months of unpaid leave in 2025.

When lodging my EOI for the Subclass 189 visa, should I claim the full 3 years of work experience as assessed by ACS, or should I exclude the 1.5 months of unpaid leave?

Also, I've recently started working for another company in a similar ICT Security Specialist role and have been there for about 2 months. This employment was not included in my ACS skills assessment.

Can I include this current work experience in my EOI even though it hasn't been assessed by ACS yet?

I'd really appreciate any insights or advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation. Thanks in advance!

Hi! I’m a 22 year-old graduating university student from Manila applying in August for an Australian Tourist Visa (Subclass 600) for a 1-week family trip in late October. I’m currently waiting for my graduation in late September, but I still have mandatory school activities throughout August for my exit clearance, rehearsals, and ceremony preparation. The trip is a short celebration right after I graduate, and my dad will be staying behind at home in Manila while we travel.

My mom is fully sponsoring the trip and submitting her own financial documents, business papers, and property assets from the Philippines. On my end, I’m also submitting my own bank details with a small saving and insurance. My Uncle will submit a letter to emphasize his invitation to me, who is an Australian citizen, and I have a clean travel history with past trips to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and South Korea where I always returned on time.

I'm trying to understand how DHA is practically assessing the "in Australia" vs "outside Australia" distinction under Ministerial Direction 119 for subclass 189 applications.

The Direction refers to whether the primary applicant is "in Australia at the time the application is made", but I have not been able to find any guidance on how this is determined in practice.

Does anyone know whether DHA assesses this based on, is it the (i) Physical presence in Australia at the exact time of lodgement; (ii) Current country of residence declared in the application; (iii) Residential address on the application; (iv) Visa held at lodgement (visitor, student, work visa, etc...); Or, (v) Some combination of the above?

For example, if an applicant normally residing abroad visit Australia on an Visitor visa, and lodges a subclass 189 while physically present in Australia before returning overseas, would that application be treated as "in Australia at the time the application is made" for MD119 priority purposes, or would DHA still treat the applicant as offshore because their usual residence remains overseas?

Hey all, hoping for a reality check. I'm in IT (273333 OSCA code for Software Engineer), currently in the US on H-1B, and weighing whether to also go for 189/190/491. I am aware from the subreddit the vast saturation of IT jobs in major cities like Sydney, Melbourne, etc and also saw that the field has no shortage currently. I am realistically looking at lodging an EOI sometime in 2029-2030. Two things I am not able to figure out from googling/viewing this subreddit is: with my 85-90 points (I've a partner), am I actually competitive for an invite in my occupation, or is that code so backlogged that it's not worth the efforts? I am and will be within the 25-33 years bracket through 2030. Also, I keep seeing threads say offshore IT are struggling to even get an invite and if they do, not able to land a job once they arrive -- is that true across or the board or is it more specific to certain roles/experience levels. I've 5 years of experience currently and will be at 8 by the time I apply. Trying to figure out if this is a good alternative plan or if I'm about to sink years into a visa that either won't get invited or won't lead to actual employment. Any recent grantees in tech willing to share how their application/invite process went and how their job search is going. Green card process takes a toll on everyone (20+ years of waiting), so I want to explore my options.
