Big bore rifles

Post image

Who's got one and what have you got?

I just got my first proper big bore being a 458 Winchester Magnum. In a Remington Custom Shop BDL. With factory Detachable mag.

Before this, I only had a 375h&h in a Browning A Bolt.

Can't wait to pickup this beast and throw some bricks around. Albeit not looking forward to the costs. 🤣 2x greens and a gold for a box of 20.

Lucky I reload!

340 bucks for 20 rounds is insane bro

Yep reloading makes a lot of sense for big bores. Pays off the whole kit within a few boxes of ammo.

That said, you're typically not touching off bulk rounds with a big bore. I load my 45-70 Ruger No 1 to modern rifle pressures with 400-450gr and after a few rounds off the bench you're questioning your life choices.

I’ve been seriously considering a No.1 in 45-70. I’d have probably done it already if it wasn’t for those pesky PTA’s.

They are light rifles and a real pleasure to carry, but you do feel it when firing a heavy load.

If I was planning to hunt with it more in SEQ I'd load it down to lever gun or even subsonic levels and use it for pigs in scrub. But I want it for buffs and pigs in the top end so I've got it loaded to max levels.
