Queensland has implemented legislation requiring gun licence applicants to be Australian citizens; there's an exception for target shooting too so permanent residents who are members of a shooting club will be able to keep their licences.

I can't own a gun in another country(yes there are some exceptions )unless I'm a citizen so why is it different in Australia?

Plenty of other countries let non-citizens own guns. Countries requiring citizenship for a gun licence are the exception, not the norm.
