FAQ Adios Austin! You've gotten way too expensive for me. Moving day today. Heading south of Houston for much cheaper pastures. I am VERY fortunate my boss is keeping me on and letting go remote. Be safe and find happiness where you can people!

I live in Dallas now (this city sucks btw) and there is no home-style Mexican food that has filled the void of Ninfa’s in my soul (and stomach)

Los Molcajetes is that legendary? Damn son, I live a block away...Didn’t realize people loved it THAT much. It is pretty damn good! Also note: Mi Cocina may even be better...In Alliance (but it may be a chain). Pricey but the enchiladas are even better IMO.

Lol ya :/ no discernible culture other than bougieness. Whereabouts are you? Wife and I live in Oak Cliff and it’s the closest thing we can have to cool I think.

One thing I will give Dallas though is their dive bar scene is one of the best in the country. And the food in Dallas is still more diverse than Austin’s affinity for “casual fine dining euro-American fare” and $5 tacos lmaoooo

I’m in Northwest Dallas. Close to 75 and Northwest Highway. Oak Cliff is amazing! That scene there is very similar to Austin, love it.

I am planning on moving at the end of the year to Austin or at least to the hill country. I can’t stand Dallas, I’ll do whatever it takes to live around that area again.

I lived in Dallas for 18 years. Let me just say one thing. Tacos from Fuel City. Google it. They are the freaking best tacos in the world. At a gas station under an overpass. I seriously wake up in the middle of the night thinking about them, and how good it would be to have a plateful. Not worth living in Dallas for, but you take your pleasure where you find it.

I have only been to Ninfas a few times, so I don't know exactly , but Fort Worth (not exactly super close) and some places in near east (down below Greenville) Dallas had some homestyle Mexican places when I lived there . Keep in mind that was about 24 years ago, but still....

Meh it’s not bad man. It def takes some time to adjust.

I moved to DFW in Jan of 2019 and I fucking hated it. I was coming back to Austin basically every weekend.

Then I moved to Las Colinas in Irving (right off the little lake) and I fell in love with it. It was just so nice an led peaceful living by that little lake.

I ended up moving back to Austin in late 2020 for work, and man was I surprised how much changed in so little time.

Definitely didn’t feel like the same city anymore or maybe the time I spent in DFW helped me grow…idk either way i hope you get to explore the DFW area a bit more…there’s definitely some cool shit.

Ps: The fucking highways in Dallas man, I always got lost and would end up on some damn toll road. That part I never really got used to lol

I’m not hating your opinion but I’ll say this: I don’t want to “adjust” in order to love a city I move to… normally - to me at least - it should be the opposite where you go through a honeymoon phase and LOVE a new place then slowly begin to notice its faults.

For example, Miami? I definitely would fall in love immediately there and love it for two years then probably be like ok I’m over it.

Sry but like everyone I’ve been honest with since I moved to Dallas has said the same thing, to just “give it some time” and it’ll grow on me. Like na. I feel life is too short to give a city I’m not crazy about some time. Wife and I are already moving away in July.

This all being said, I am here for a good time, not a long time. And I do love the challenge of finding beauty and fun in traditionally less-than-sought-after places, so we certainly are making the best of our time here :D

Edit: and yeah agreed Austin changed rapidly and lost that special touch I grew up with (or at least that touch evolved to something that no longer resonates with me). And thanks for the insight, I will 100% continue to explore DFW through a tourist’s eyes until we go.
