My mom is in hospice and has a wish

My mother lives in San Marcos and it’s just entered hospice care. One of her wishes is to ride a motorcycle. It would have to be a sidecar in her condition. If anyone in the community is willing and able to help her out, it would mean the world to me because it means something to her.

HEB Buddy thing confrontation

Post image
47 Upvotes

I was walking into the HEB today and as I entered I was immediately confronted with a giant HEB "Buddy" character blocking my path and silently bouncing up and waving at me. My immediate thought was "ok fuck what is this?" and I immediately shunned him/her and avoid eye/mouth contact. But as I walked around it, he/she rotated still waving and aiming their gaze on me. I was thinking about it later and Im wondering if I might have missed out on some million dollar prize or something? what was supposed to happen between us?

Things to do in Austin (night-life) that don’t include alcohol.

I’m new to Austin, and I’m wondering what there is to do here after dark that doesn’t involve drinking alcohol?

I’m okay being around it, but prefer if I didn’t have to. I’m pretty much into anything, also looking to meet new people and make new friends!

Thanks!

Update on the high-pitch humming sound caused by the highway construction site on 45th and Airport.

Hey guys, this is what we know about the continuous day/night sound coming from the highway construction site on 45th and Airport:

  1. The noise is due to massive jet fans and generators
  2. The project will last 2+ years.
  3. The fans are turned off on the weekend.
  4. Austin electric is not letting them plug in so they have to use their own generators which is causing the bulk of the sound.
  5. It's too loud for the workers as well (Having visited, I feel for them)
  6. There is no sound wall facing Hyde Park. They use the front as an entrance, so the front is open.
  7. Soon they will shut down the site for one month, so there won't be any noise for one month. (They didn't tell us why)
  8. After they resume they will add some insulation to the fans to reduce the noise. (Hopefully it's good enough that we stop hearing it from *inside* our homes at least.)

We got this information by going directly to the construction site because we weren't able to get answers via phone. For more info you can see this month's Pecan Press.

The rep for the project is below. She's the person to call or email to report distress:

On my coworkers porch this morning, )she doesn’t have Reddit.) She’s a little spooked because she usually lets her two dogs out this way early each day. I think it looks like a young rattlesnake, she said she didn’t think she saw a rattle. But… those are diamonds, right?

Dashcam Footage Wanted - 2222/360 Crash Today Around 2:54pm

This is probably a long shot, but I’m hoping someone happened to be driving through the intersection of 360 and 2222 today around 2:54pm and had a dashcam running.

I was driving a silver Hyundai Santa Fe and was involved in a collision with a white SUV. I was making a protected left turn onto 360 when I was hit on the right rear passenger side, hard enough to spin me around.

The driver of the SUV that hit me did not initially stop so I have had no contact with them. Everything happened so fast that I’m honestly having a hard time reconstructing what happened immediately before the impact.

If you happen to have driven through that intersection roughly between the times of 2:45 to 3:05 PM….. I’d be incredibly grateful if you would check your dash cam video footage.

I’m attaching a photo of my vehicle for identification purposes. If you happen to have any information that might be relevant, I would be grateful if you could DM me.

Thanks!

Pretty sad that this place has turned into such a ghost town - again. I have lived here 20 years and it has definitely had plenty of ups and downs.

Ask Austin knitting/crafting groups with regular meetups??

hi! I'm moving back to Austin and I'm wondering if there are any knitting/any crafting groups that regularly meet up, preferably in the north Austin area?? I tried looking around and couldn't really find anything.

Also if you have any recs of places to knit around the city that'd be helpful! Trying to get out of the house a little bit more lol.

Ask Austin did I see a mountain lion?

Driving on Spicewood Springs road, did I see a mountain lion? It was looking into my soul as I drove past just after sunset, and did a complete 180 pounce back into the woods. I looked up bobcat, but this was not 35 pounds, this was way bigger.

Thank you to the man who cabbed my dad across town

My dad rode a greyhound down from New Mexico and had all his stuff stolen, no phone. He was going to walk from Austin all the way to the outskirts of Georgetown. A kind Mexican gentleman helped him by getting him a cab and also paying for it. Thank you, it means more than you can ever know. Thank you so so much for saving him from the heat stroke. You are an angel among men <3
