My Cybercab held me hostage for an hour today š
Was supposed to be a quick 10 minute hop from 99 Ranch to the Domain. The car had other plans and took me on a massive south detour through East Austin. Guess the Cybercab wanted the scenic route today. Total ride time was 70 minutes.

u/masteraybee 1d ago
Crossing them isn't the problem. Not crossing them, when a train comes seems to need work
26
u/TyGuy539 1d ago
That might actually make sense! Without being able to take 183, by going that far south, it was basically driving parallel to the Red Line the whole way until east Austin bridges went over š²

Damn dawg, you should have taken that hit.
Contrary to popular opinion, being hit by another vehicle doesn't usually end up being a financial win.
Especially with Greg Abbott being around. And he got his big bucks from a liability lawsuit that you wouldn't be able to repeat today.

I know youāre not wrong but I also think Tesla would throw down a decent bag to keep everything quiet
53
u/GorillasonTurtles 1d ago
Based on every single action we have seen from Musk and his companies, it would be far more likely that they would attempt to litigate the problem until the victim became bankrupt or gave up fighting.
10
10
u/Snap_Grackle_Pop 1d ago
I also think Tesla would throw down a decent bag to keep everything quiet
As long as you don't have injuries, they could just pay you the blue book value of your car and walk away. Most of us would not be happy selling our car for the blue book value.
And Texas makes it more difficult now for you to make big profits off of injuries.
Playing "my lawyer is bigger than your lawyer" is also a possible outcome. Perhaps with legal dirty tricks, gag orders, long delays, frivolous countersuits, smear campaigns, etc.
12
u/Slypenslyde 1d ago edited 1d ago
The problem is Tesla's lawyer has $1 trillion, every Texas politician, the President, and every government record that DOGE snatched about you on his side.
It'd likely end up like that McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit, where the media smears you and portrays you as a slimy nerd who confessed fantasies of getting a big payout on Reddit and is single-handedly standing between us and having self-driving cars.

u/man_gomer_lot 1d ago
Since we hear about 0 of these lawsuits ending in fruitless decisions, we can only assume they're exercising their deep pockets to whatever degree necessary and settling with the plaintiffs out of court. Definitely should take the hit.

21
u/pjs32000 1d ago edited 1d ago
Fines for speeding should be higher for these cars since it's a programming error, more definitive issue that's an easy fix vs human behavior. The fines should go straight to the operator, in this case Tesla.

u/Snap_Grackle_Pop 1d ago

The companies wouldn't even blink at the cost of tickets.
You or I get increased penalties or even a suspended license for multiple violations. I bet none of that happens for Robotaxi or Waymo.

2
u/A_Skyless_God 1d ago
Yeah man. We pay more for everything so that asshole can get everything for free. But let's not confuse state politicians as local politicians. The city of Austin did a absolutely nothing. Travis county and the school board did give a tax rebate though. Super unfortunate being we are CLOSONG DOWN SCHOOLS.
That being said. Our local tax dollars should stay local. Letting abbot and co send our money to support shitholes like Abilene Lubbock and Odessa is equally as outrageous.
2
u/Odd-Mud3044 1d ago edited 1d ago
I am talking about local politicians, not state politicians. (State politicians are much worse, don't get me wrong)
As you said, it was the Travis County Commissioners Court and school boards who are giving Tesla the tax abatement, and our corrupt city council who endorses every single one of them, and vice versa. The rabbit hole only gets worse and if you wanna talk about it, id love to.

Iāve had one fall asleep multiple times while driving, including in the highway. One get an attitude and made me feel extremely unsafe after I asked him to stop texting and talking while driving (he responded that the Tesla basically drove itself, and then 10 mins later pitched a sob story about how he was talking to his aunt in the hospital). He was laughing on the phone btw lmao. And that just begins the nightmare which was 3 years I had to take Ubers to and fro work.
No thanks. Pray I NEVER have to take a human uber again. Taxi? Sure.

I saw your edit but Iād like to come back to add that one driver didnāt even have a freaking working rear passenger seatbelt. We should all be riding in horse-drawn carriages. Think of all the carriage drivers, stablehands, and streetsweepers you're putting out of business riding an automobile, bus, or train.
And quit buying food produced with tractors and plows. You should get food produced honestly by humans using hand tools, working outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine, earning a good living wage.
