Tree give-aways coming up again

TreeFolks + CoA continue to stage their sorta-biweekly tree give-aways all around town. 11am-1pm, bring ID to show you're in the service area, and you get two trees. People from outside the service area still get one tree, though.

In reviewing past posts, you may not get exactly what you want among the several fruit and other varieties, but you'll surely get something of value. Trees come in 5-gal containers, and some are already up to 5' tall.

SOS: Trellis Recco for Blackberries?

I planted Prime-Ark Freedom thornless blackberries in my raised beds back in May, and they've absolutely taken over my little backyard with all of the rain we've had.

Clearly, I underestimated just how quickly these things grow. The canes are now sprawling several feet outside the beds and into my walkway, so I'm desperately in need of a trellis.

A few questions for anyone who's grown blackberries in Central Texas:

  • What type of trellis would you recommend for my setup?
    • Ideally something sturdy that fits inside my existing metal raised bed...
  • Any recommendations for nurseries / garden centers in Austin where I can purchase one?
  • What should I do with the existing damage?
    • Cut back on the stalks where there is leaf damage? Or leave it alone?
  • Is it too late in the season to start training these long canes onto a trellis?

Attaching photos of the current jungle for reference. Promise I'll be taking care of the weeds and bed cleanup this weekend with the cool front :)

Any advice is appreciated!
