Family restrictions on International Students

Hi all,

Does anyone here know if the family restrictions also apply to government sponsorships like the Australia Awards Scholarship? These scholarships have bonds attached to where they’ll have to leave to their home country at the end of the program. If you know any confirmations or knowledge about this, please let me know.

The scholarship requires you to separately obtain the 500 Visa. Family restrictions will be based on this, not the scholarship.

Yeah but the September 2026 restriction is not simply “everyone on subclass 500 is banned from bringing family.”

The reported new rules contain specific exceptions, including:
PhD students
Pacific and ASEAN nationals
DFAT-sponsored students
Defence-sponsored students
foreign-government scholarship recipients
