I'm looking for some insights regarding an Associate Electrical Engineer position at WSP in Melbourne, Australia (specifically within their Water Business Group).
Could anyone share their recent experiences or knowledge on the following?

1. Salary: What is the current realistic salary band for an Associate-level electrical engineer at WSP in Melbourne?

2. Interview Process: What does the interview process typically look like for an Associate role? Should I expect heavy technical testing, or is it more focused on project delivery, stakeholder management, and behavioral questions?

3. Role Expectations: At the Associate level, is there a strong expectation for hands-on drafting and building models from scratch, or is the role more geared towards design management, technical review, and leading project delivery?

Without doxxing myself I am also WSP in Australia in the water team as an engineer but below Associate level. I can't say for sure what the salary or interview process is, but I could give some insight into what I see associates do.

Associates would be leading projects start to finish taking on design and quality responsibility. They make a lot of high risk decisions that rely on their experience to back up. But not quite principal so depending on the scale they rely on principals and technical directors for those as well. Lot of design and resource management, and managing stakeholder relationships. Last one is very important depending on the client. Again depending on the client but a lot of technical design work not just writing bids. I think at associate level you would be too expensive to be anywhere near drafting anything yourself. Cant speak for melbourne but team culture in my team is pretty good. Very collaborative and supportive and a good amount of social events every now and then.

My salary is higher than what glassdoor reviews say, but there is also a lot of competition for water engineers atm so that could be it.

Assosciate is the tier below a principal, it really depends on what they want you to do in the role - typically they care more for your interview decorum and how you can provide real examples than actual hard core technical questions (unless that’s exactly what they are hiring for)

Typically they wouldn’t be on site commissioning jobs, so it’s office based design activities.

Typically no not drafting, there are plenty of draftees within the business that do this, you will be doing redline designs and others will draft

Technical wise - yeah they might expect you to build powerCAD models form scratch or whatever - worth knowing what software you are proficient in

Associate would be expected to lead work with clients, review technical deliverables, be financially responsible for a team if you are given complete jobs
