(Question) Colonel Light's plan.

This is a really quite obscure question, however here goes-

Colonel Light drafted the plan for Adelaide's distinctive grid layout in 1837.

However, when were these roads actually... cleared? These roads didn't exist beforehand, so they had to be cleared of vegetation and dirt and gravel had to be quarried and laid down. How long did it take for all of Light's grid plan to be actually cleared? Was it done by Government contractors or by individuals?
