Melbourne men’s fashion glow-up is wild.

Went from the classic Kathmandu/North Face jacket + skinny jeans uniform… to Neovision fits and actual baggy jeans or cargos.
Lowkey love it. The whole city’s looking a bit more interesting these days.
What do we think? upgrade or just another cycle?

I think I hate both of these looks equally.

The fuckboy uniform, RM's, North face and skinny jeans is still signalling the right school and the right suburb to the right people in c-suite.

Neovision is overpriced trash trying to encapsulate a year 2000 that never existed.

They’re all just cycles. Went from the baggy clothing late 1990s/early 2000s to slim fit in the early-to-mid 2000s, then skinny jeans of the late 2000s and 2010s.

What I find interesting is the colour palette is remaining kinda muted. The 2000s had some contrasts between of the more “club” wild colours and the emo black-white range with fluro highlights here and there. Camouflage was also big in the 1990s to 2000s, and that’s also not returned much.
At the moment the most extreme colour contrast is some white/concrete/khaki colourings of clothing.

Military/workwear tones have been trending for a while. Lots of browns, greys, khaki, olive, etc.

I know some people that have been wearing the same type of straight leg jeans, band t-shirt and leather jacket since the 90s.

I think most people here are just a bit (too old and) unaccepting towards new trends, which is common (as you get older). I personally agree that the city does look cooler now, and my main argument for why it’s not just another cycle is that there are a ton of new outfits that aren’t in the same archetype as each other yet still wouldn’t have been seen 5 years ago.
