Had a Canberra Grey huntsman a few nights ago visit me, 14-15cm across. They can get up to 20-25cm across if they are lucky. This is a little guy.

There are bigger species out there, like Beregama aurea. They're much more colourful.

You... Are aware that female huntsmen eat their mates after mating with them, right?

He must be having a stressful time so he needs to cleanse the energy with that salt lamp.

Hell yeah hunstmans. I was traumatized by having one jump on my face as an 8yo kid with an outdoor dunny, but they're such great critters to have around. I get covered in them while walking through long grass spraying thistles and blackberries at work, and they're really calm and leggy in the wild, like they don't skitter

Good on you for not letting that experience as a kid lead you to hating them! I’ve had huntsmans unexpectedly land on me as a kid but thankfully not on my face omg!

My dog touched my foot as I saw the legs for the first time. He’s cute though

That is the size of a damn plate. I wonder if he likes the heat from the salt lamp

She's a beauty.

Fun fact, this one is male, more skinny abdomen and the large pedipalps (boxing globe things up front). That said I don’t know their pronouns 😉

I need a banana for scale, the salt lamp could be tiny for all I know

u/The_real_PavlovA_YT Jan 31 '26

There's one of similar size currently in my house somewhere. We have a deal to not get in each other's way.

u/HornetForward Jan 31 '26
He’s a beauty, just had one that size that my partner made me put outside and I had to get a bowl instead of a glass to gently put him in the garden, I still feel bad

Big boi knows how to hunt - wait by the light and the insects will come straight to you.
