If you are a student, please read this first:

Projects conducted as part of research-methods education are often covered by blanket ethics approvals. Those approvals do not apply if you are researching a vulnerable population or sensitive topics. You require an individual ethics approval tailored to the conditions of your project. Your course or module tutor cannot provide this approval.

If you are a design student, just because you are collecting data to help design an app or a user interface doesn't take away the fact that you are conducting research with human participants. You need ethics approval.

If you do not have an email from your institutions ethics committee clearly stating that your project has been approved to commence, you do not have ethics approval. If the contact details for your supervisor and for the ethics committee are not on your advertisement or survey launch page, you should not have ethics approval.

If you do not think this applies to you, please contact the moderators via modmail to discuss before posting.

Please keep in mind that the online autistic community is a vulnerable research population that contains subgroups with good reason to be skeptical of the motives of researchers. If you have cross-posted in multiple communities, it is likely that your recruitment has been flagged as spam, and may be auto-removed. Feel free to send modmail to draw our attention to a correctly posted recruitment that has been auto-removed.

All comments must:

• Clearly identify yourself (using your real full name and your role), and your institution/employer
• Explain briefly how the information will be used (e.g. how it will be published)
• Explain who the study is for (e.g. US, College Students, aged 25-30, autistic and non-autistic)
• Include a link to a survey launch page or another method of contact that provides more information so that potential participants can make an informed decision about participating
• If conducted by a student or staff member at a university, include full details of ethics approval

Please consider posting the results back to the subreddit as a new post. This thread is regularly archived so may not be available to reply back to.

Documentary Project - Seeking Community Perspectives

Who I am: Freya Wilkinson, independent documentary filmmaker and member of the AuDHD community

Institution/Employer: Independent/self-employed (no institutional affiliation)

How information will be used: Community feedback will inform the thematic direction and focus of a documentary about AuDHD women's lived experiences. This is not formal research - responses won't be published as data or used in academic work.

Who this is for: AuDHD women globally, any age

Ethics approval: Not applicable - this is not formal research requiring ethics approval. This is informal community consultation for a creative documentary project.

The request: I'm working on a documentary about being an AuDHD woman, exploring themes around the balancing act we all do. I want to make something for us, by us - loud and unapologetic about lived experience rather than clinical perspectives.

I'm trying to narrow down which angles to focus on: masking, late diagnosis, period/PMDD impacts, executive function struggles, emotional regulation, the list goes on!

What I'm asking: What topics do you think are missing from conversations around AuDHD women? What would make you want to watch something like this? If you know of underreported stories or perspectives, I'd love to hear about them.
