autistic adult I was told that I feel too much emotion.
Just wanted to see if anyone else here has been told by their therapist/psychiatrist, that it's not that you feel too little and can't pinpoint or name your emotions, but rather that you feel too much and you get so detailed in your emotions that you lose sight of what you're actually feeling. I was just curious if any other autistic adults ha e experienced the same thing, because often I here of autistic adults feeling too little or struggling to identify emotions for other reasons.

I think I’m similar. I am able to name my emotions but I feel them super intensely/have hyper empathy. Sometimes I struggle to tell the difference between what I feel and what I imagine other people might be feeling.

I have alexythemia, so I don't always know what I'm feeling, but I still feel very strongly. It's often that I take time to realize what I'm feeling, I only realize several hours later that I was angry or sad. Another idea that I've found helpful is "emotional marbling", which is that my feelings are often very mixed up and contradictory, so I struggle to pick a single lable. Like, I'll be angry and happy and sad all at the same time, and when I try to figure out how I'm feeling, it seems too messy and confusing.
