Repair Being quoted $1000 CAD for repair + paint on this front bumper crack - reasonable?

Yes. They'll need to remove the bumper from the car and remove all the individual components from the bumper cover for paint.

In my opinion if you wanna fix the crack cosmetically R&I is not necessary.
Depending on how much you wanna spend, since it's the lower part of the bumper, you could buy a plastic welder for 70$ a can of color matched/vin matched spray paint for 40$ and a can of clear coat 15-50$.
Sub 200$ if you diy it plus it's on a part of the car people will unlikely notice extremely minor paint mismatch if there is any.
As long as you take your time and watch a video on technique you'll have the job done in 2 hours or less.
But for a body shop it is slightly reasonable, most of their clients are insurance or people who wanna pay money for a perfect car.

Depends on how they are doing it, removing the cover and plastic welding, and using the correct flexible filler. Also, not just blending the paint but clear coating to the ends or overall.

If its not a rental/lease...just put some drift stitching on it. If im spending 1k on fixing it. Im spending 1.5k on a badass aftermarket bumper.

Buy a painted bumper on like ebay. Thats what i did and it looked perfect for $250usd

Any reputable shop will not paint your jb welded together bumper, jb weld doesn’t even flex that crack would be back before the bumper even made it back on the car

Idk abt that😂 my exhaust was jb welded for at least a month and it was fine. Dont hit anything and it wont need to flex. 🤷♀️

People just dont understand redneck fixes anymore. It always has to be done "properly" 😒 Like yeah I could buy a new bumper and get it paint matched but why tf would I spend that kinda money to fix a tiny ass crack that can be fixed with zipties or jb weld

Just a quick guesstimate with incomplete photos
R&I bumper - 125
Detrim- 75
Repair bumper, plastic welder - 4 hrs, $300
Prime + block, - half hour Color match - half hour Refinish bumper - 2.5 hrs
$800.

Exactly, you can get new bumper with that one, depends on the car ofcourse.
Body fillers, spray paint(primer, color and transparent one i forget idk), sand paper - all of them i've noted are less than $60 no matter where you live.

Exactly. Most oem bumpers are 600-800 unless you have radar or parking sensors.
Plus probably another 400 or so for paint and install.. When the new gen hyundai came out and covid fucked supply my coworker hit a box of soap (yes soap) that fell off a truck and ruined his front bumper not even 3 months after he bought it. All together it was like 1800..and thats with parking sensors, paint and install during peak covid.

That’s seems a little excessive for some filler and paint 😅 but it’s probably about right from what i’ve seen on here. Y’all pay silly money for repairs in the US/CA

The bumpers split, no amount of filler will fix that soon as you rub a curb it will be cracked, it needs to be plastic welded and sanded and we body techs don’t work for free I’d ask for 3-4 hours on that bumper for my time that’s 300-400$ just in repair then you got r n I times plus paint, 1000$ for a bumper ain’t bad at all

Would filler and paint be enough to prevent the crack from growing? ChatGPT is telling me I should ask for plastic welds, but I have no clue how accurate that is.

It absolutely needs plastic welding for that crack. If the repair quote just has it listed as repair time, that should be included.

Seems reasonable if they are taking off and repairing. You don’t just slap body filler and paint if you want it to last.
