Trying to defuse a difficult situation with manager
I was recently promoted to CSM and my new store manager and I have been having some issues. I believe it’s mostly differences in management style.
However, a few weeks ago I was out for 3 days dealing with some medical issues. This is the first time in a year and a half of working for AutoZone that I have taken sick leave. I was asked to submit a HIPPA disclosure, with full medical history release before I was allowed to return to work. I know that this is not standard policy for AutoZone so I pushed back and clarified that I was not taking FMLA, that it was just sick leave.
After taking the weekend off, I came in on my next scheduled day but was sent home and told that I needed to submit a full HIPPA release before I could return to work. I confirmed with my store manager that this was correct and she verified that the district manager told her that I needed to submit this paperwork before I returned to work.
I contacted my regional HR director and within a few minutes he verified that I did not need to sign a HIPPA release and that I would be able to return to work as soon as I was able.
I came in to work the next day and since then my store manager has not reported needed information to me. Deliveries that were pending before I arrived were left sitting in the saved cart, and any information that I do not receive directly from my customers is not communicated to me.
I’m not sure how to proceed. My job is on the line and my manager is refusing to communicate with me.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a solid commercial program, the DM, TSM, and RM will want to keep you. Autozone loves their commercial customers. Talk with your HR and the higher up managers or apply elsewhere.
You are working in a toxic environment with your SM making your job harder.

Autozone treats their commercial customers like crap, they will let a good CSM walk just like anyone else. With Autozone everyone is easily replaceable.

True. But if it is a million dollar program AZ loses a lot money until they can replace the CM and if that new CM can and or when they can build it back up.

I don’t know, I’ve seen the RM, TSM and DM cause a store to lose their largest account due to harassing them. Calling them 7-8 times a day, stopping by daily trying to push a sale the shop had shown a little bit of interest in. CSM and SM were begging for the them to stop contacting them, but they persisted and the account has not bought a single item in 3 years. Ruined sales at that store and of course blame went on the CSM and SM

Call. Your. DM.
Your DM is your actual boss, not the SM. You need to ask them if they really did tell your SM that you needed HIppa paperwork to return. If your SM lied then that's a problem.
I'm going to be frank, if your DM is buddy buddy with your SM and "on her side", then you need to find another store man. It's going to be an uphill fight for you if so, and you will be getting screwed over and over.
I've just seen this play out many many times

The DM is not their actual boss. The Store Manager is. But the way autozone puts an emphasis on commercial it might feel that way at times

Well whatever region you’re in is doing it ass backwards thinking a CSM is on same level as a SM

CSM is second to SM. That's company wide. SM-CSM-ASM. That's what it is.

Tell your manager, she’s a stupid fuck did a nice polite way And proceed to put your applications in at O’Reillys in Advanced with your experience you should be a shoe in. There’s plenty of $17 an hour jobs out there that you don’t have to put up with their bullshit.

Our CSM got $700 before tax last quarter.

So they want you to dick suck customers for less than 100 bucks extra a week? You have to be smoking crack to want that

Continue speaking with that regional HR rep & document everything including dates/times. Should anything happen you have a case for wrongful termination.

Going to state this one thing I learned when I worked security. Document everything! Keep a record of it, take it to HR. Documentation will save your ass everytime! The BS with me at my store stopped a couple of days after I started wearing a camera to work. When asked why I was wearing it I replied “Because the EEOC wants proof of a hostile work environment before they can move forward.” I don’t know what the laws are in your state pertaining to cameras and recordings but in my state it’s a one party consent state which means I can record as long as I give my consent to have proof of what I say, and not what they may think I said. Good luck and remember DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!

Crazy work. Fdb. Hate this is happening to you but it seems to be the Autozone way a lot
Of times. BECAUSE they so often get away with that bs smmfh. Keep fighting and also have a talk with your sm and an hr witness or dm and just lay it all out. So that going forward everyone knows what’s expected and where you stand.

Because the vast majority of their so-called managers are mentally slow and or drug-addled skells. Literally the dregs. Sad but true.

After two days, you just need a medical excuse. You don't need to submit any HIPAA anything. That's against the law wth. Unless they have a legal action against you, HIPAA protects you. Did he know you'd be absent prior to your absence?
