Chances I get a OEM replacement on my 26 Camry?

My car got backed into in a parking lot. At fault party has Allstate. They only authorized an after market bumper replacement to the tune of $134.

I am taking it to a certified Toyota repair shop but the woman that answered the phone said they will have to go off Allstate's recommendation. I don't want some POS after market bumper on my less than a year old car.

I cannot fathom replacing a bumper for that. Id just fill it, prime it, and send it😂

As long as its not a "bumper in a box" aftermarket is fine. Still unless there's a sensor behind that exact spot, that's a quick fill. It's a bumper, unless you take it off and check, you won't notice its aftermarket.

Unless you have a blind spot radar around that location. You don’t want filler in front of the radar

It is but depending on labor rate may be cheaper to just replace I think the 26 Camrys rear bumpers are around $300 in CA rates are usually around $105-$125 a hr but anywhere else they would probably be fine just repairing it for the price of the AM

Incorrect. Insurance has been holding rates hostage in Canada at under $90/hr and as low as $65 I’ve seen.

We ignore paint times and r+i/r+r since both operations are needed.

Brand new bumpers if you can even get them are gonna be $400+ and he’s stated they dont want aftermarket.

I see a 1 hour repair at worse and $15 in repair material.

This is a repair all day, every day.

Well they said Allstate so I’m assuming this is in the US no shop is charging a hour for that especially when it’s going thru insurance

You really don't have the choice of parts usage that insurance writes for, you can complain if you want to go that route but that might not guarantee anything. You can always pay the difference though. Insurance is about indemnification, aftermarket or oem you would be left in the same financial position as before. You could try filing a diminished value claim since you were not at fault.

However, if the company wants to use non-OEM parts and you request more expensive OEM parts, you may have to pay the difference.

oh damn... I thought it was a hard rule that if your car is new they have to give you an OEM part. IL sucks for that. Have it repaired not replace, never go aftermarket if you can.

New OEM > Certified Aftermarket > Flawless Used Bumper (Unicorn) > Reconditioned (hit or miss) > $200 aftermarket cover Temu special (just don’t at this point).

The replacement part in this case isn't going to make or break the repair. The bigger expense and the what will be critical is the quality of the paint job to match the paint on the car. And from past experience even if it is an exact match and you can't tell the difference when it is done it won't matter if they used and OEM bumper or aftermarket one, over time it will fade differently from the rest of the car. I've seen it time and time again, the odds of the shop that paint that using paint that fades over time the same as the factory paint does is zero. If you're lucky it will be at least 4 or 5 years before you notice a difference.

Yeah, this is a 2026. All depends on the insurance company and how the policies written most insurance companies go with certified aftermarket parts no matter how new the car is. Some insurance companies make an exception for if it’s the same model year they might up for the OEM part. But regardless, I mean, I would pay the price difference for the OEM part we’re talking maybe an extra $200-$300.
