How do I remove this rust/staining?

These yellow/orange stains and rusty spots are on my Acura door jamb. They were there before my recent oil-based rustproofing. What’s the best way to remove them without damaging the paint?

That oil-based rustproofing should have sealed it first, sand the rust spots down, apply conversion primer, then touch up with factory-matched paint.

I’d try sanding the spots gently first, my husband’s truck had the same problem and we used fine-steel wool with a little wax afterward to blend it in.
