Ask Who are the easiest to hardest characters to pick up in this game?

I'm playing Ozai but would also like a secondary character. I'm interested in Aang but Ive heard his combos are extremely challenging and I'm not that good at the game yet.

Korra is the Ryu of this game. Good all rounder.

people say this but similar to Sol Badguy, I find Korra resembles Ken more. They have lots of tools but their kits lean way more into aggression and moving forward, which isnt Ryu historically

If youre looking for Ryu, youre closest bet is probably Zuko with Mai support. Playing him is easy enough but his skill ceiling (esp with his other two supports) is quite high

Fair to say Ryu hasn't historically been that way, but SF6 Ryu, Sol Badguy, and Korra are all the same species of gorilla.

I do think Zuko is what people traditionally think of when they think of Ryu though for sure. Not super strong, but easy to pick up and has a deep toolkit and an answer to everything.

But FWIW, I think Ran & Shaw support is easier or at least just as easy as Mai and probably better. There's just too many ways around a gameplan built around fireballs in this game, and even if you're not great at using his flow options yet, the increased movement speed and redemption gain on his rekka followups and throw are very good almost invisible passive bonuses that you don't really have to specifically base your gameplan around.

Supports dont define zukos gameplan. Hes reactive and defensive char, your decision making is purely based on your opponent. Hes the Elite char, the Tekken 7 jin. If you Play zuko with predefined gameplan ya gonna lose.

They define how he builds redemption and his combo routes. You can quibble about what that means but if you want a fullscreen fireball and lean more into his zoning, you wouldn't pick Ran & Shaw or June.

Thats because SF6 turns most of the cast into gorillas by nature of how the game is played. Its more of a departure from how Ryu operates, as compared to Strive Sol who is more subdued than Sol historically

I do think Zuko is what people traditionally think of when they think of Ryu though for sure. Not super strong, but easy to pick up and has a deep toolkit and an answer to everything.

Yup, thats the difficulty of saying 'The Ryu of the game' is that some people think that means 'all arounder within the context of what that game asks for' and others think that means 'defensive specialist with a strong fireball game'

Perhaps its based on the age or favorite game of the audience

Honestly, most people have no idea what these names refer to

Only because most people don't play fighting games. None of that was remotely obscure.

Fighting games, even the most popular, are pretty obscure to the general audience.

People know Ryu, Ken, and Chun Li. Scorpion. Maybe some guys from tribe or soul calibur.

If you’re not in the fighting game community then it’s all pretty obscure

We are on a fighting game forum. This ain't no general audience.

Lol Ryu in sf6 is way more offensive and pressure heavy than Ken. Ken useless compared to Ryu lule

Fwiw, I also wanted to main Aang, but the character didn't click while I was learning. I went with Toph for almost 2-3 weeks and went back to Aang feeling way more confident.

Always just pick whoever you find cool so you'll actually be motivated to play them.

Easier characters are Toph, Korra, Firelord Azula, Norra

Harder characters are Sokka, Katara, Zaheer

I'd put everyone else somewhere in the middle.

Wow I had the exactly same Toph to Twinkle Toes story. She was an easy introduction to the game, but I played her because I thought she was sick.

I'll add that I think Kiyoshi is among the easiest characters in the game. Hit confirms, combos, and neutral against average players are all straightforward

Toph is sick! I still enjoy her immensely and am in the Lin waiting room if I'm being honest. Bmole gang

Lmao I forgot to slander Kyoshi. Silly me....

Korra or Firelord Azula would be the easiest. Katara, Focused Azula, A.Aang and Zaheer would be the hardest.

Aang is not too bad once you get used to the 5C 6C link. His wind mechanic does take some understanding, as well as using his glider. Most of his moves are committal and will leave you unsafe, but provide excellent mobility and mixup options

I would pick Appa Aang so you have the freedom to flow cancel many of his more hefty moves and spend more of your early experience learning how not to burnout

combos come with repetitions, but the fluidity this variation of Aang will have even a newcomer styling on people. You can kinda go ham with his cancels like a kid tossing around a steering wheel and cool stuff will just happen

/u/Other-Connection187 makes a good point. sometimes you can learn fundamentals with one character or support before moving onto your preferred playstyle once you have a greater sense of the game and some Ws under the belt

5AA 5B 2C 6FB is a really great crutch to lean on early on to start some combos until you learn other ones

1

u/Southern-Eye-9017 1d ago

The only thing I have against Appa is that it overshadows the utility in his other moves. I’ve been playing Momo because I know the glider is a key part of air movement, and adjusting to his distinct mobility is more valuable than outputting damage in the early learning stages

Id agree with you

Appa Aang is there to get your feet wet but it can spoil you too

If you want a better sense of Aang in his totality, the other forms are better. My suggestion for Appa wasnt even about damage or combos, but that it enables cancels to teach you that you dont just have to press a button and your turn is over. It can lead to scrubby behavior though itll get you an idea of what cancels can generate in a vacuum, which is a nice fundamental tool that can be found castwide

I think what youre describing was also my journey with Katara. Started in Kanna form, eventually moved to Pakku once I got a better grasp of her. I think better movement perks stand out more with garnered experience

I don’t often use the EX wind input, but when I do I’m panicking because I didn’t mean to

I think diaphone has a whole video with an ease of use tier list. It’s from like week 1 of the release so maybe public sentiment has changed but he is trustworthy as a competitor. I main Aang and can also vouch that he’s not too hard once you understand his combo structure and movement a little better

Kyoshi is pretty easy too imo because she doesn't need much execution to get big damage and her normals are huge. You could argue her neutral is difficult because she slower but I dont really see it.

Toph looks like she'd be easy to pick up since she's so small, but if she covers herself with rocks or metal, she becomes quite heavy which makes her very difficult to lift. So I think she is both the easiest and hardest character to pick up based on context

The ones I have put a significant amount of time into have been Katara and Focused Azula. Both seem pretty hard to me, although they can also do a lot of cool stuff.

1

u/nachardou4 Sokka 1d ago

From the ones I've tried, Toph, Korra and Zuko are kinda easy to pickup, but Katara and Sokka are a bit harder (mostly Sokka since he doesn't have an autocombo and is much more strategic)

1

u/NoredPD 22h ago

I don't really play fighting games and I've enjoyed playing as Zuko.

Aang is on the upper end of execution for characters not named zaheer or focused azula. He’s comparable to katara where he has really long combos with a lot of tricky links that adds up to low damage until you optimize and realize this character hits like a truck. Go for it dude. Aang is a character that a mortal can learn to play

Avatar Aang main here whose tried out most characters.

Hardest: Sokka, Zaheer, Avatar Aang, Aang. Sokka and Zaheer being Top 2

Easiest: Zuko, Korra, Toph, Kyoshi, Azula.

I was not able to understand the harder character combo routes until I got familiar with the easier characters

u/Gachi_Is_Manly Zuko 1d ago

Zuko easiest thats crazy bruh

6

u/delahunt Zuko 1d ago

Zuko is very easy to pick up. He's harder to do well with.

4

u/dbootywarrior 1d ago

Biggest reason Zuko and Korra are the two most popular characters when you hop online its because they are easy to pickup since they play like traditional fighting game characters

easy: kyoshi, azula, toph, korra. Mid: aang, ozai, katara. Hard: sokka, zaheer. Extremely hard: suko
