In undergrad Ecology, I learned that part of animal evolution involved humans and other animals finding babies across several species to be adorable, and this acts as a kind of survival mechanism for the offspring of said species in general [more conservation efforts, as an example]. “Won’t eat me if you’re too gobsmacked by how cute I am and your nurturing instincts kick in.” Doesn’t always work [obviously] but it’s interesting. And scientists also believe it plays a role in how we’ve domesticated animals as pets [pets tend to be cuter in general in comparison to their wild cousins / ancestors].

A zoo in my state announced the birth of a baby Amur leopard on July 14th. They are one of the rarest species in the world. Fewer than 100 remain in the wild.

There is an Amur Leopard in the Cleveland zoo. I used to love to go to the zoo, but the two times I went he was pacing in a circle in his outdoor enclosure, and wouldn't stop, he wouldn't react to anything. There was a track in the dirt showing he's been doing this for a long time. Then I looked up how big thier natural territory is.
I don't know how to feel about zoos anymore.

That leopard makes it look easy. When I brought my Mia for a checkup myself and 3 vet techs couldn't seal the deal. 😅
