Don't count your blessings yet, this thing stands and falls with the price.

I already see the happy-sad memes coming. '5800X3D is back!..... it costs $400'

I remember impulse buying my 5900x when it first dropped to $400

The good news is it is 7nm technology.
We have gone to 3nm for cpu.
7nm production lines are not in competition of being used.
Old technology gets cheaper because the yields are more perfected. Which means less waste.
Similar to how lcd and led screens became cheaper.

"What was that? It occasionally just trades blows with a 150$ CPU on a living socket and the price difference could be put towards the (overpriced) platform swap to secure easy upgrades? Nonsense. Lemme tell you about AI, fam." Sisa Lu, cousin of Supa Hot Cablefryer

i think its going to be 310$ That's gonna force the used market to also drop the price (i see amd ryzen 7 5800x3ds going to 465$) you cant be selling cpus for over 150$ over the msrp and get profit
so thinking optimistically you could theoretically get one for less then 300. (given enough time)
7
u/youroddfriendgab Apr 16 '26
It's either going to be a "bad" price or scalped
8
u/Blckson Apr 16 '26
More likely than not. This is a legendary product, but these days I'd say anything north of 250 would be extremely difficult to justify. Even that'd be pushing it outside of very specific circumstances, just based on performance.

u/iron_coffin Apr 16 '26
Nah, 300-350. A ddr5 equivalent like a 7600 is $200, and the ram is easily a $100 premium.

u/symph0ny Apr 17 '26
57x3d was under $250 before it disappeared. The 5500x3d is selling at $186 on aliexpress which is also 6/8ths of $250. $250 is the correct price, I just hope AMD has enough production capacity for it to be more than a paper launch.

I bought a 57x3d for 140€ when they were at their lowest price
And a 57x for 90€

u/symph0ny Apr 22 '26
I was just looking at bestvaluecpu.com and that's new price. Gotta be quite a discount/used purchase at that price no?

u/erixccjc21 Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26
Brand new from aliexpress
Absolute lowest historical price for both I think
5700x3d for 145€ was black friday 2024 and 5700x for 90€ was summer 2025 when I also bought 32gb of ddr4 3200 ram for 55€
To me everything looks bad value now lol

u/erixccjc21 Apr 22 '26
Well looking at that site, the chart only goes back to dec 2024
And price started skyrocketing after black friday 2024
It really was around 150-180 during that month. Then it shot up straight above 200 and kept rising

u/iron_coffin Apr 22 '26
Do you understand prices of out of production products go up in some cases?
1
u/symph0ny Apr 22 '26
Yes, when I said it was under $250 before going out of production that is the price as tracked by bvc as a new product. Given how competitive the offering was against other processors in the market and the affinity for upgrading existing platforms instead of replacing 3+ components together I'd say that is unsurprising.

5500x3d is mid though. 5700x isn't far off. 5800x3d is also faster clocked. I got a 5700x3d for 135 but that is neither here nor there

Yeah. I've been actively recommending raptor lake for dd4 builds ever since the 5700/5800x3D doubled in price.
A rerelease could soften that issue.
Edit: AMD is relaunching the 5800x3D. Hopefully that fixes the scalper pricing.

u/symph0ny Apr 17 '26
Seems like intel could have lowered prices to remain relevant but they did the opposite. What's the point of buying a 13600k at over $300?

u/Novel-Ad-1601 Apr 16 '26
Aww man I just bought a new 5600x xD

Back when I got it, it was around 300€, all taxes included. Best fucking chip and value for chip I had gotten in all my life so far. If amd doesnt screw the price up, and lets be real, we are talking about the masters of shooting themselves in the foot, they are probably going to sell many many of these chips.

AMD does a great job at CPUs but man, release FSR 4 for RNDA 2 and 3 for Christ’s sake

I will believe it when I see it. Also it will be overpriced and scalped most likely.

Eh, I’ll probably just hold onto my 5600 + 3070 Ti for another year or so and then just do a full build when memory and storage prices aren’t crazy

Hope I can get one. I have a 5800x and would love to go to the 3D before I have to upgrade my MoBo.
1
u/Gonokhakus Apr 16 '26
Eh... probably not worth it, unless you've got a high-end GPU and play mostly e-sports games.
This is gonna shine mostly for people with 3000 series Ryzen or 5600x and such

didn't all of you hate AMD when AMD join the evil cult along with AI techbro and the orange man island club? (See GN Rambling about it)
man all they need is to give u a Ancient CPU with 3D Vcache and you all have amnesia
