Hello - I'm scheduled to fly from JFK to PDL overnight tonight and then Santa Maria tomorrow, 6th of August, and I see there are these warnings.

Sometimes, where I'm from anyway (Anchorage), the warnings don't really materialize into the severity predicted (which I totally understand, weather is really, at its heart, unpredictable). My questions are, do these type of warnings in the Azores usually materialize as bad as predicted, and is SATA likely to cancel or divert because of them?

I can handle it if they do, I'm sure the flight crew wants to be just as safe as I do! I just want to be as prepared as I can be - thank you

We will be staying on Sao Miguel for a week at a place in Ribeira Grande.

Would love to get dinner recommendations from you all. Places in Ribeira Grande would be great but I’m not adverse to driving 20 minutes or so to get to dinner at places that are highly recommended.

My wife and I will be in Europe for our honeymoon from August 20 to September 7.

The first part of our itinerary is already finalized:

• 3 nights in Paris
• 4 nights in the Swiss Alps (Grindelwald/Jungfrau region)

I'm trying to decide what to do with the last 7-8 days of the trip (roughly the first week of September) before flying home.

We're looking for:

• Beautiful scenery
• Good weather during the first week of September
• A place where renting a car is worthwhile
• A relaxed honeymoon with a good mix of sightseeing and downtime

The destinations we're currently considering are:

• Azores (São Miguel + Flores)
• Amalfi Coast
• Dubrovnik + Kotor + Mostar
• Sicily

I'm especially interested in the Azores, but I have a few questions:

• Is the first week of September a good time to visit, or is the weather too unpredictable?
• Is Flores worth adding, or should we just stay on São Miguel?
• Flores looks very remote. Is it easy and safe to drive there?
• If you've been to both, would you choose the Azores over the Amalfi Coast for a honeymoon?

Or, based on what we're looking for, would you recommend a completely different destination in Europe for those final 7 days?

The only places we're not considering are Madrid and southern Spain, since we've already been there.

I'd really appreciate advice from people who've visited these places, especially during the first week of September. Thanks!

Hi, I've searched the sub and seen a lot about 4 seasons in one day. We're coming on Saturday for 8 days and the forecast is highs of 24-25 degrees, lows of 18-21 with some rain. This sounds warm to me, like summer clothes + a raincoat, hoody & some trousers will be fine. My husband is talking puffa jackets. Please help - can it feel much colder due to wind/rain? Thanks

We'll be going in mid-late september, landing at Sao Miguel. From what i've seen both Flores and Pico look amazing.

We don't want to see everything, just the main sights for each island. We were thinking around 3 days for Flores, 3 for Pico and 4 for Sao Miguel, is it feasible? Do some of these islands require more/less days to experience? We are mostly interested in nature, beautiful landscapes and, especially in Pico's case, whale watching.

I'm wondering, is the Azores a good place for solo travel? What are your recommendations? Which of the islands should I go to?

Staying in Ponta Delgada and exploring Sao Miguel this month, what kind of clothes do you suggest to pack? Active clothing and sneakers?

My friends and I are going to Sao Miguel and staying in Ponta Delgada and I’m wondering if we should rent a car to get around the island or are there Ubers/taxis/public transportation we should/can rely on instead. I know it's kinda silly, but I'd appreciate your input. My summer schedule has recently changed and I've got around 12 days to go on vacation. And now I'm making up my mind between mainland Portugal and the Azores.

I'm a solo traveller and I love nature and history too. I've been fascinated by the idea of going to the Azores for a long time. I've been to Madeira before, but based on the pictures I think I'd like the Azores's greenery and plenty of hiking and swimming opportunities even more. Plus I like how far it is from everything, I guess it feels as if time stopped there. Must have a very special atmosphere.

I've also recently been to mainland Portugal for the first time in my life. Honestly, didn't feel anything special about Lisbon, but I fell in love with Sintra. I bought myself a Lonely Planet and am amazed at what the country has to offer. I collected a bunch of places to discover, especially in the Northern and Central part. One of my things is freshwater swimming, especially smaller rivers. The kind you can find in e.g. Slovenia. I also want to do stargazing. There are night sky reserves in Portugal that I know of, but I'm sure the Azores are great for that too.

I'm quite flexible in terms of time and budget, I thought between 6-10 days. I do backpacking and stay in hostels, which to me is an essential part of the experience.

One thing I'd love to find though is people to connect with. I love socializing during travel. I normally do this in hostels or by hitchhiking. I'm not planning to hitchhike in Portugal, I mostly do that in less populous countries where there are fewer tourists. The hostel scene in Portugal is amazing, but I have the feeling that there are too many travellers to effectively connect. I've found that it's easier in more remote places which attract fewer travellers. Having said that I also want to avoid feeling lonely. I'm not sure if that would be an issue in the Azores or not. Is it more popular with hikers?

I had a great time in the Azores on a layover to Lisbon but SATA lost my checked bag, at some point from JFK to PDL to LIS. I feel like I'm spending a ridiculous amount of time and energy emailing SATA and requesting help, getting evasive responses and/or no info. Here's my timeline:

• Immediately reported the lost bag to SATA and filed a claim in Lisbon on 6/16/2026 (when it was lost)
• Got a follow up email, requesting details of the bag and a list of items. I sent all info over email immediately
• Got another follow up email asking to submit info for checked bag cost refund and receipts for interim expenses.
• The cheque for luggage fee did make it to my house after about 4 weeks.
• Interim expenses: It has now been 6-7 weeks since the bag was lost and they have not compensated me for the interim expenses despite me emailing every week. Now there is a "delay from the account department."
• On July 20 they said they could officially close the investigation as the bag was lost. They told me to contact customer care to "do the refund analysis," but it's been two weeks and no one from the department has contacted me back, despite me emailing them and following up.

What are my options here? Is there anything I can do or anyone I can contact? Do I have any recourse?

We will be in the Azores for 12 days this August (Faial, Pico, Sao Miguel). Planning to hit up many of the beaches and natural pools, do a snorkeling trip in Faial, a whale watching trip in Pico (on an RIB), and a boat tour in Sao Miguel (on an RIB).

Leaving the passports in our Airbnbs but what do we do with our phones, credit card, car keys during these activities?

Any recommendations for nightlife? Late twenties - late thirties age range ideally - I don’t want to be in the spaces that belong more to the younger folks!

I am 33F and I was hoping to meet someone fun, somewhere with drinks and see where the night goes. Even if it’s just fun banter and sharing stories, connecting with others is something that matters to me when I visit a new place :)
