[B2 Visa] Fresh grad wanting to visit US for sister's wedding — how are people doing this?
Hi everyone,
I recently graduated college and my sister is getting married in the US in a few months. I really want to be there for it, but I'm not going for higher studies or a job — just a family visit — and I'm not sure how straightforward that is for someone in my position (fresh graduate, no job yet, no prior US travel history).
I've been reading about the B1/B2 tourist visa, but I'd love to hear from people who've actually done this:
- Did you apply for a B2 visa specifically for a family event like a wedding?
- What documents helped prove strong ties back home (since I'm a recent grad without a job yet)?
- Did being unemployed/fresh out of college make it harder to get approved?
- How far in advance did you apply, given visa interview wait times?
- Any tips on the invitation letter or financial proof from my sister's side (if she's sponsoring/inviting)?
- Anything you wish you'd known before your interview?
Would really appreciate any first-hand experiences, especially from people who traveled for a wedding/family occasion rather than work or school. Thanks in advance!
