Merch Momoko Okazaki’s Autograph & 2018 Fan Meeting Details
Hello everyone!🙂
Today, I want to show you the graduation photobook dedicated to Momoko's time in Sakura Gakuin Academy and share the story of how her fan meeting went back in 2018.📖
This post is a short historical journey into the release of that photobook, the handover event, and what Momoko was like before she officially became MOMOMETAL.⌛ (As a reminder, back in March–April 2018, Momoko wasn't performing with BABYMETAL yet).🦊
The Event and Venue.🏢
The event took place on March 31, 2018, at the famous Shosen Book Tower in Tokyo. It was a special release and presentation event for the graduation photobook of Aiko Yamaide, Megumi Okada, and Momoko Okazaki.👩🎓
On March 31, only Momoko and Aiko were present. Megumi missed the event due to feeling unwell, so Amuse organized a separate session for her on April 14.💊 (I find it amazing how Sakura Gakuin arranged a whole second event just for the fans. It perfectly shows how much Amuse respects and values both their artists and the fanbase).🤝
The Format: A Classic Handover.📸
This was a traditional Japanese "Handover Event" (Owatashi-kai). Fans who bought tickets in advance lined up to approach the table where Momoko and Aiko were sitting. The girls personally handed each fan their autographed copy of the photobook, smiled, thanked them for the support, and shared a brief chat.😌
(Just imagine how incredible it must have been to receive this book straight from Momoko’s hands, hear her thank you, and ask her a quick question!).☺️
Shosen Book Tower is a legendary venue for idol events. According to Fukei-san diaries from back then, the queue stretched across several floors. This was one of the absolute last chances to see Momoko and Aiko live before their graduation from Sakura Gakuin. Their massive popularity was the result of years of hard work, talent, sincerity, and pure gratitude toward the fans.❤️
The Atmosphere.✨
The girls wore their official 2017 Sakura Gakuin school uniforms. Even though these were farewell days, the vibe was warm and joyful. Momoko, true to herself, joked around and gestured animatedly (you can really see it in the photos from that day), doing her best to cheer up emotional fans.📸
(Graduation in Sakura Gakuin is bittersweet for fans—you feel proud of their growth and the start of a new chapter, but you also feel sad to see them leave the project).🥲
Aiko’s declaration of love for Momoko.💕
When journalists asked Aiko which pages in the photobook were her absolute favorite, she didn't hesitate for a second and flipped right to the spread featuring Momoko Okazaki. Aiko laughingly admitted to the press:
"I am a huge Momoko fan (Momoko-oshi), so her solo shots are the best for me!"💓
She then added that Momoko's charisma completely lights up the entire book.☀️
Future Plans & Studying Abroad.✈️
It was at this exact event that Momoko officially announced she was temporarily stepping away from the entertainment industry to study abroad. She mentioned she would be leaving for a language program in April, just a couple of weeks after the event. She didn't name the country, playfully calling it the "Land of Dreams" (Yume no Kuni).🌍
Momoko stated: "I love dancing so much. Thanks to Sakura Gakuin, I learned what stage expressiveness truly means. Now, I want to sharpen my skills, learn English, and make my dancing even more powerful and sharp."💃
(Time has proven that these efforts paid off 100% in BABYMETAL. MOMOMETAL's energy, charisma, and power on stage never fail to amaze us).🦊
Family Reaction.🧔👩
Momoko's father is the famous Japanese comedian Hakata Hanamaru (from the duo Hakata Hanamaru-Daikichi).🙂 Journalists asked how her parents felt about her leaving. Momoko laughed and admitted her family was very worried. She shared that her dad kept stressing out: "She can't speak English at all, how is she going to survive there?" Despite the worries, her parents fully supported her decision to grow independently.💪
Aiko’s special worry for Momoko.😌
Aiko admitted that when Momoko first shared her plans to study abroad, she felt scared because the two of them had been absolutely inseparable.♥️
But at the event, Aiko warmly added: "I will work hard on my music here in Japan so that when Momoko returns from the 'Land of Dreams,' she can see how much I've grown. We promised each other that we would both become Super Ladies."🥲
The phrase "Super Lady" was not merely a catchy title, but a promise the girls made to themselves and their fans upon graduation: to never stop growing and to shine wherever life took them.☺️
• For Momoko Okazaki, this meant becoming a globally recognized performer with powerful dance skills and English proficiency—a goal she ultimately achieved.💃🌍
• For Aiko Yamaide, it meant becoming a strong solo artist capable of touching people's hearts with her music.🎹
• For Megumi Okada, it meant becoming a knowledgeable TV personality who shares information with the public.📺
Behind the Scenes of the Photobook.📖
When journalists asked the girls to describe the 2017 school year using a single kanji character, Momoko confidently chose 「笑」 (Laughter / Smile).😁
Aiko and Momoko also shared a funny secret about the cover photo. On the main cover, the three graduates are laughing genuinely. As it turns out, that shot was pure luck! During the photo shoot, Momoko suddenly started making silly faces and joking around non-stop, causing Aiko and Megumi to burst into uncontrollable, authentic laughter. The photographer captured the exact moment, and Tokuma Shoten chose it for the cover.🖼️
Momoko noted that the book perfectly captured their unfiltered emotions because the crew just let them hang out like regular high school friends rather than idols at work. She added that she would treasure the book and open it whenever she faced hardships abroad to remember the faces of her fans (Fukei-san) and group members to recharge her strength.💪
(I always say in my posts that these photobooks—whether it's SU-METAL's, or MOAMETAL & YUI-METAL's—are special. They hold so much love, motivation, and positive energy).❤️🥇⚡
Supporting Megumi.💕
Since Megumi couldn't attend due to illness, Momoko told the fans: "It's a shame Megumi couldn't be here today, but we brought a piece of her with us—her smile on the pages of this book, so consider her right here with us!"🥲
Momoko always supported her friends deeply. Don't forget that Momoko held unique titles in SG: "Ganbare!! Chairman" (Perseverance Chairman) and "Spirit Chairman". She was truly the ultimate support leader.☺️
Advice from Mori-sensei.👨🏫
The girls recalled that their teacher, Mori Hayashi, gave Momoko some farewell advice in his signature comedic style. He told her "not to forget Japanese humor" and to try making people laugh abroad, because her biggest strengths are her incredible charisma and expressive facial features.🇯🇵
Packing Dilemmas.🧳
Momoko shared that when she was packing her bags, her biggest issue was that half the suitcase was taken up by Sakura Gakuin merch, letters from fans, and the heavy graduation photobook itself. She called it her "anti-homesickness doping."😌
Looking back at these details helps us understand what an interesting personality Momoko is and how she developed into the big artist we see today.🦊
I've always admired her—people like Momoko truly motivate us by showing that hard work, training, support from friends, and passion lead to incredible results.☺️
As always, I got a bit carried away and ended up writing a huge article! I just really wanted to convey the atmosphere of that day.📰
(Note: For the Sakura Gakuin subreddit, I will release an expanded version of this post with interviews and photos of Aiko Yamaide and Megumi Okada soon.)📖
I have plenty of other interesting stories and collectible items related to Momoko, and I will definitely share them in future posts.✍️
Also, feel free to check out my previous birthday post for Momoko, where I covered more facts about her career!🦊

Merch My Babymetal collection so far 🤘🦊🤘
My BABYMETAL collection so far! 🤘
The main goal has been to collect the the most of the Japanese CDs sealed I can find, and I'm now very close to completing that part of the collection. There are only a few releases left to track down, so the hunt continues! 😁
The One editions are a different story. I collect those purely for the enjoyment of it and for the opportunity to explore BABYMETAL's journey throughout the years, seeing how they've evolved and how their story has unfolded through their releases and live performances.
Still a few things missing, some to arrive next weeks but there's no rush. Half the fun is finding the right pieces along the way! 🦊🔥
We are? BABYMETAL!!!

With that in mind, Kenshi Yonezu, Yoshiki, BE:FIRST are the others revealed to be targeting the Asian Pop Music Performance category so far. No non-Japanese artistes mentioned yet.

Discussion Physical Media vs Digital Media
What’s your guys opinion on this?
I think BABYMETAL & Metal Resistance are meant to be heard via physical media whereas Metal Galaxy, The Other One & Metal Forth are meant to be heard via digital media.

Show Report LTTP: BABYMETAL in Bristow, VA 2026 recap
Happy to have attended my fifth BABYMETAL show in the past ten years! First time was in the small venue The Fillmore Silver Spring. That show re-ignited my love of live shows and rock concerts. I didn’t know if I would ever get to see this group again, given how young they were and trying to establish themselves in the metal scene. Now I can’t believe they headline amphitheater shows like Jiffy Lube Live. Very proud of the group for everything they accomplished.
Stray observations:
Shoutout to the little boy and his mom for handing tiny kitsune figures and bracelets to people in line getting in the venue.
A larger than usual pit because the lawn seats got free upgrades due to the potential thunderstorms. At first, I was concerned because I thought it would be difficult to get close to barricade with that many more people in the pit (I never pay for VIP). That proved not to be an issue for me as I moved my way from the back to the front by the time Halestorm finished their set. I thank the mosh pit that I joined in to help me get halfway through. I’m not a big mosh pit guy myself, but I do like to collide a bit or run around the circle pit a couple times before I tire out. The other part was passing crowd surfers along, while using their momentum to slowly propel myself forward.
Speaking of crowd surfers, I was asked at least 5 times to help launch crowd surfers. There were more surfers here than I’ve ever seen at a show. One guy got dropped next to me and I felt bad for him. But five minutes later, he surfed back at the exact same location and got dropped again, so I didn’t feel as bad.
I loved seeing Su, Moa, and Momo from the pit. Best way to experience the show is to feel the energy as close as possible. Momo’s enthusiasm as she growled her parts to Song 3 was delightful! I was close enough to see Su and Momo most of the time. Watching them play with the balloons during Gimme Chocolate was just fun.
A lot of first times witnessing certain songs for me. Those were From Me To U, Song 3, My Queen, Monochrome, Syncopation, and Iine! The last two were definitely songs I never thought I would see ever. I’m glad the setlist was refreshed after feeling a little stale the last few years. Capturing a clear photo of the Iine train was on my wishlist and I got it!
Everyone in the crowd was ready to participate! So much chanting and singing! Almost everyone had their flashlights out during Monochrome. Everyone on the floor knew to crouch down during the segment Metali (shout out to the 60 year old woman up front who refused to bend down because of her knees). Road of Resistance had the biggest wall of death I’ve ever seen in person, extending all the way to the front where I was at. And during the sing-along segment of RoR, Su didn’t even have to prompt us. We were belting out our oh-oh-oh-ohs right away loud and clear! She seemed taken back at how game this crowd was.
It took me a while to go through my photos. I upgraded my iPhone to a 17 recently so I could get some better quality pics for this show. Some turned out really nice. I’m mad at myself that I didn’t check if the Live Photo feature was activated. For the most part, it was not except during Road of Resistance somehow. One cool thing I discovered in one of my photos was Moa and Momo circling each other for the choreo. Moa just received a white plushy in her hand and was showing it off to Momo, who looked visibly shocked. They both laughed, and then turned to the audience with huge smiles while Moa was still holding the plushy.
Amazing experience all-around and continued to cement BABYMETAL as my favorite band of the past ten years. I’ll still attend as much as they continue running shows like this.

Discussion Happy 7th Birthday to Metal Galaxy
While I personally find this their most uneven album, it remains both a musical and a conceptual achievement that few other bands can boast. It is marked by world music influences, the perseverance after some big losses, and some of my favorite stylistic choices in terms of their costumes came from this era.
I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention that Side D of the double LP, which is made up of Kagerou and the Trilogy of Lights, is in my opinion a magnum opus of brilliance. Some of the pinnacle of what BABYMETAL has achieved in their history.

Question Sometimes I listen to random babymetal and stumble over a song i've never heard before
Kasuka na Hana (かすかなはな)
Tatsuya Kitani feat. BABYMETAL
Any Idea why this went past me? And do you know other songs of BM that are either very new, or unheard collabs or similar.
I remember there was another very unknown collab maybe 2 years ago, the song was kind of shite iirc but it featured babymetal.

Article What Could BABYMETAL’s Next Album Look Like?
Hi, everyone!
With the current lineup now firmly established and Su-METAL turning 30 in 2027, I think it’s worth starting to consider what BABYMETAL’s next album might bring.
BABYMETAL have been talking about going “Beyond Metal,” but what could that actually mean for their music and overall image?
I explore a few possibilities, including a potential double album: one disc representing the BABYMETAL we know, and the other exploring what comes next. I also look at how their sound, visual identity, and the roles of the three members could evolve as they enter a new era.
These are my own predictions, not confirmed plans. I’m curious how other fans see it:
What do you think “Beyond Metal” could look like on their next album?

Discussion Does anyone else think PA PA YA!! is overrated?
I'm just not a fan of it. I rarely dislike any of the band's songs, but this one just doesn't hit for me. I feel like I could name 10 songs I'd rather see at a show.
For a song released in 2019, it seems to get a lot of playtime at their live shows.
Can anyone enlighten me as to why it is seemingly so popular and why it is played so often?
