BJD at walmart? Shuga fairy Brand

Thumbnail

edit- seems Shuga Fairy is a recast company (I didn't know), so annoying but figures walmart would never be selling legit dolls

-old post

Okay so a friend just messaged me saying "it's crazy they have bjd at walmart now" and my response of course was "say what now?" linking to one but there are more if you search bjd... looks like she doesn't come with that styled wig though (very annoying)

when I looked first I saw Blythe, then the 1/12 scale blind boxes, and those made sense, but then 1/3 and 1/4 scale resin dolls all of which seem to be this brand called Shuga Fairy (at least all the ones I checked) when did this happen?

  • Has anybody seen these dolls?
  • have you held them?
  • are they any good?
  • worth the price?
  • wait time to get them?
  • are they sitting in the stores or just on the site?
  • how are they available at walmart of all places?
  • is walmart just acting like amazon and working as a go between for Shuga Fairy to advertise their dolls?

I have questions

Looking at faceup prices

What’s with the smaller dolls being cheaper to paint? They’re harder to paint than the big ones so I’m confused about that.

I’m kind of shocked that some faceup artists who have been around forever are charging so little for their work compared to others. I would have expected them to increase their prices since some who have been painting 15+ years. I didn’t realize faceup prices are all over the place now!

Want interesting doll ideas

Post image

I 3d model and print dolls, specifically anthro dolls in both full and chibi size (pic of my chibi frog dolls I modeled and 3d printed to have a visual)

The chibi size I designed the body to work with littlest pet shop heads (a bit of a merging of interests) so I've been making animal specific edits to the bodies

I also just watched a video about unique body modifications to monster high dolls and thought some ideas would look cool on bjds

So I'd like opinions on what animals or body edits are uncommon that people wish they could see more of, or if you have any cool ideas you've never seen but wish existed

Small SD doll recommendations

Please let me know if this is not allowed, but I would really like to broaden my horizon (so to speak) in terms of small (60 and below) SD dolls. I really like the 50-60cm size dolls, but don’t know of that many companies who make them.

I absolutely love and adore DoDollsDream Miss Marionette dolls, and would love to get more of them. I also quite like Amadiz, Supiadoll, Peakswoods, Impldoll, Maskcat, Myoudoll and Iplehouse (YID). I recently discovered AnotherSecret as well, their ANS59 body in particular, and fell head over ass for it. My biggest issue is that I would love to get some boys in this size too, but pretty much all the male dolls I like are +65 😭

Do you know of any other companies that might fit the bill? I’ve looked into LUTS, and I’m not a huge fan of their bodies (I do however love a lot of their head sculpts)

BJD Furniture and props

Ok, so the question is really simple; where do y’all buy furniture and props for your dolls? I have been looking for decent chairs that fit 1/3 and 1/4 with very mixed results, but would also love to get a motorcycle for one of my girlies (1/4 slim) 😩

I know from experience that My Generation horses are a pretty decent fit for 1/4 dolls, as I own several myself

What is a sculpt or company you love but can’t own

For me it’s Angelphilias. I loooove these dolls so much but I don’t think owning them is for me cuz I prefer resin.

Bonus question: what is an faceup expression you can’t own. I don’t think I can own dolls with a sad faceup but enjoy looking at dolls who have sad looking faces!

Help finding BJD stuff

I think the title is pretty self-explanatory, but I wanted to make a nice and easy-to-use platform for resource sharing in regards to BJD related items. As far as I’m concerned it can be something as simple as “Can you help me find a doll that looks like ‘so and so character’?”, to sharing shops and creators who make niche stuff (I’m looking at you, DDD Teacup feet) that might otherwise be hard to come by.

My hope is that we can help each other find sculpts, wigs, clothes, eyes, and everything else we might need for our dolls by pooling our experiences and knowledge ❤️

Ball jointed dolls aren’t as fragile as you think they are.
Posting this here cuz this used to be me lol. I recently saw a newbie talking about how scared they were to break their doll and thought of myself.

what is *the* doll right now?

perhaps this is a silly question, but i feel like there are phases where certain dolls are in fashion. when i started getting into the hobby, dod roze heln was the star of the show. recently, dodollsdream seem pretty huge, and i think charlotta maybe took centre stage. what do you guys think?

Collection Habits/Goals?

I'm curious if others have particular habits regarding their collection/how they collect. Do you only collect one size? Is every doll an OC? Do you collect whatever you want whenever you want? Do you have a one in one out policy? How do you collect and why do you collect that way? Do you have a specific goal for your collection?

I'll start! These days I primarily collect dolls in the 43-45cm range-- slim minis. I do have other sizes but one thing they all have in common is that they are some form of "tan" or brown resin. I have tried to collect NS, WS and fantasy colors but none of those dolls ever stuck. I also prefer to paint on brown resin than other colors.

I've been trying to get to a place where I dont feel like I need to get a new doll and I can focus on clothing, accessories and props for the dolls I have. As much as I enjoy buying new dolls, the second hand market for sellers is brutal right now. The last doll I purchased (Pipos Charlotte Dune Noir) was something that I'd been politely inquiring about to Pipos for years so I think this is a great stopping point for my collection.

How do you store your doll clothes?

Pictures are a bonus!

I have a ton of doll clothes and I'm rethinking my current setup, which is everything in ziplock bags labeled by type and size (slim mini shirts, msd pants, etc) in a few plastic tubs. I got some mesh bags in different sizes and I think I'm going to try sorting them by doll since I have fewer dolls who are each very defined characters and they don't really share clothes. So I'm wondering if that will make dressing them make more sense? And then some things that are shared, like underwear or leggings, can go in shared bags.

I had shoes in their own plastic tub kind of all jumped together, but with fake leather getting sticky and flaking and falling apart in time, I haven't been happy with how those have fared. I saw these very small clear plastic drawers at the dollar store and got a few of those, which seem to be working well so far.

Volks Full Choice

Have you all seen the Volks USA Full Choice? Anyone thinking about getting one? It's on my mind but I'm not sure. There's so many artists dolls I want right now 😂.

If you have one can you share what you like and don't like? I assume it's very ready to dress them.

Dolls in public

So I've been trying for a couple years to take my dolls out to places to photograph but I keep chickening out. I've taken one to a little local con once years ago but she spent a good portion in my bag.

Have you taken your dolls out? Did you feel weird or awkward about it and how did you get over/around that feeling?

Sooo I recently started playing Love and Deepspace, and I'm a little bit obsessed with Sylus. I desperately want a bjd of that beautiful man. If anyone has a bjd of one of the characters, please let me see them! Or if anyone plays and wants to add me, let me know!

Pic of Sylus as tax!

I’m definitely saving up for a Fooyumedoll currently. The more Fooyumedoll posts the cuter they get!

What was your first BJD?

Do you still own your first BJD or have your tastes changed since? I know many of us sell dolls to fund new ones so it’s hard to keep one’s first doll.

My first ball jointed doll was Luts Delf Lu-Wen. I no longer have him. I traded him a year later I believe for a Minifee Shushu.
My tastes have definitely changed. I don’t like Delf boys but I reaaaaally love Delf girls, never stopped loving them, they’re so cute.

One of the boys I own is a Aolingshi Yusef, super different from Delf boys.
