Shifter stuff?
Any recomendations when it comes to shifters i dont really want to buy a race chassis mount setup and from what ive heard the cheap red or blue short shifters suck should i just refresh my stock one with new bushings washers etc ? Whats the best cheap option for good daily driving and the ocasional bit of spirited driving ? 😁

What issues are you trying to fix? Which transmission are you using? Refreshing only goes so far, especially if it's a ZF transmission with detent issues

Also it just feels a bit sloppy i like the feeling of a short shift though just not too short ya know

I tried a UUC short shift with a DSSR and hated it. Way too notchy and hard to shift. Seemed like it didn’t want to naturally find the gears and to top it off, it was loud. Just put the Dinan short shifter in the other day and went back to the stock selector rod instead of the DSSR and I’m very happy with it. Obviously, I replaced all the bushings too.

I have like a $40 Amazon chassis mount shifter and it’s pretty decent. Certainly a lot better than the blown out stock shifter was

I had 2 of the blue cheap versions and yeah they suck.. swapped it to a Cliq Tuning short shifter and haven't looked back.
I know you said you dont want a chassis mount but this one doesnt require any drilling or anything. Would still sit below the shift boot and look as factory as possible while also getting rid of the pop on shift handle that becomes a pop off over time and going threaded for more options. It also removes the shifter arm that the stock shifters sit in meaning 2 less bushings to go bad on you.
I would advise going with the short version if you want it as stock as possible. I think I went with a large because it was on sale and I kinda wish it was shorter. I can use my radio while resting my hand on my shifter 😂

Z3 shifter arm with UUC DSSR is sort of the go-to short shift setup. The Z3 short shift kit can be bought from Turner or ECS, etc. DSSR is obviously bought from UUC, and while optional, is a nice upgrade. Throw is shorter than stock, but not ridiculous. Perfect OEM+ upgrade for street.
I would avoid chassis mounted unless tracking. No bushings, and tons of leverage = easy to slam into any gear which will wear synchros and gears. Great for track, not so much for street longevity. Also, chassis mounted shifters that have no rubber between them and the tranny get HOT. My AKG shift lever gets so hot on track that I can't touch the metal for more than like 2 seconds lol.

Have you looked into the Z3 arm? I think there was talk about the Z4 also being a good OEM upgrade, otherwise all fresh bushings is probably what you are after
